A Question about White Balance
In the initial opening of your fts data, Star Tools provides four choice for what type of data you have to present. I use either a Canon 600D (unmodified), or a Canon 7D mkII (full spectrum modification). Both are Bayered, and both spit out "White Balanced" subs. I have my settings for WB as automat...

Re: A couple of Questions
Cheman, Yes, after over a year of going crazy, zipping around the sky with my camera, I finally came to the conclusion that I need to slow down and concentrate on one object for a night or three, snapping as many subs as I can, and then weeding out the bad or so-so subs. I've really noticed the qual...

Re: A couple of Questions
Cheman, I have that dratted Windows 8.1, and I have not found this anywhere. Navigating this version of Windows is not made easy. Guess I will have to just forget trying to find the location. I've been all over the program listings, and Star Tools isn't mentioned anywhere. Funny thing is that it doe...

A couple of Questions
First of all, I see that you can bring up the steps you used to process an image. Unfortunately I guess I am not smart enough to figure out how that is done. Could someone tell me how to get to this information. Secondly, I have been having trouble with getting rings around my stars, and in some cas...

Re: Can Anyone Do Better With This?
Cheman, I had one of the Astronomy Forum members suggest a fix in the stacking phase of DSS, which may be the problem with the red rings on the very bright stars. The suggestion was working in the cosmetic module of DSS. I am going to try that when I no longer have nice nights to photograph. It's be...

Re: Can Anyone Do Better With This?
Burly, You got about the same, though it surely is an improvement on my meager efforts. I've been concentrating on dimmer objects the past few nights. Then I attack them in Star Tools, and have been experimenting. I found the key module is the Contrast. Got to keep the aggressiveness very low. That ...

Re: Can Anyone Do Better With This?
What I meant was the process I used with Star Tools to get the image down to size so I could post it on Google Drive. I have very slow internet. It took 20 minutes to download 20 MB to Google Drive. The original 260 MB TIFF would have taken all day. So I pared things down with two steps using Star T...

Re: Can Anyone Do Better With This?
I got permission to show you the PixInsight version, which I think is awesome. I am just wondering if Star Tools can duplicate it. Caley

Can Anyone Do Better With This?
Hello, I spent about 4.5 hours gathering data on IC348, a small bright nebula in the Constellation Perseus. I've tried about 10 times to extract what I know is there. Another person used his PixInsight to process my data, and basically got what I thought was there. My version, and other peoples, who...

Re: Removal of Spikes from Reflector Telescope Images
Thanks so much. Guess I will have to live with the spikes. I only got the 8" RC so that I could get a bit more focal length to make some of these tiny objects a bit bigger. Even some of the Messier objects are small, and my 102 APO refractor just barely lets me see them well enough for me to extract...
