Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

Wavelet Sharpening in StarTools is indeed "more" data driven than a regular wavelet sharpener, in that it uses more statistics and analysis of the data to achieve two - for AP generally - desirable things; it refrains from boosting areas that don't have enough signal (uses Tracking's signal evolutio...

Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

If it helps, almost every processing algorithm/technique has an equivalent in "1D" such as in audio/music; For example; Wavelet sharpening is about isolating and manipulating specific frequencies (like a graphic equalizer). Deconvolution can be thought of as undoing the effects of a reverb/reflectio...

Re: StarTools 1.9 Beta

Small update again (1.9.561 beta 5). Chasing some odd bug that passes file dialog clicks onto StarTools on some OSs. For any macOS folks running Ventura and later (e.g. hixx ?), I also added a new way of unquarantining that I'd like to roll out if it works reliably; control + click on StarTools.app....

Re: Sky Glow parameter in FilmDev

Hi Jeff, Thank you for your post. What you appear to be suggesting would constitute data clipping/destroying (e.g. throwing away pixels below a certain threshold). This is almost never OK, except in cases where that data can be assumed to be anomalous. For this purpose you will already find a "Dark ...

Re: StarTools 1.9 Beta

Small update with some bug fixes, UI fixes and getting rid of (hopefully) the last "UNKNOWN" log entries. :)

Re: StarTools 1.9 Beta

Hmmm... Yeah. That's not exactly intuitive. Will fix! Thanks, Ivo. Not a priority of course, especially now that I (and hopefully others?) have a bit better understanding of what Bin is wanting to do for us here. Just something for the list of UI tweaks on the path to the final 1.9. Now ...

Re: StarTools 1.9 Beta

Hi Mike, I think this is expected behavior, and should only happen if you have chosen an integer binning mode. In that case, there are only specific "sweet spot" percentages that allow for an integer factor bin. Is that what's happening? Hi Ivo. I'll give a qualified -- aha! This starts to explain ...

Re: StarTools 1.9 Beta

I think this has been here a little while, but I usually don't run across it much as I tend to just accept preset buttons -- In Bin, there is unusual and erratic behavior of the image sizing slider. This affects use of the side +/- buttons whether clicked or hovered and mouse wheeled, as well as mo...

I'm not sure I have come across this issue before...
Does the non-GPU version work as expected?

Please note that Linux users, will require zenity and wmctrl installed on their system. Can you confirm these packages are available on your system?

Thank you,

Re: StarTools 1.9 Beta

Hi all, I just released a new beta version. I finally found the issue causing the outsized ringing due to apparent non-linearity. I was being a... not so smart person. The issue was, that I was not taking into account the effect that synthetic luminance generation has on overexposing star cor...
