Re: Sh2-308 Dolphin Nebula Processing

Hi Martin, at a first thought I would try to process like data from a dual narrow band filter and OSC. So, setting “Luminance, Color” to “Bi-Color from OSC/DSLR” and loading the Ha file into the red slot and OIII data into the green and blue slots. As you stressed “Ha accents” I wonder if you would ...

Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

I don't think I would say it's a step towards "art," though that all depends on definition and scope. The JWST team does state that things become more subjective. And that's okay! To me the art side is more manipulative, even misrepresentative, alterations, if serving only aesthetic purpose. Agreed...

Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

Interesting article, Mike. Thanks for pointing out. The process description starts quite detailed, explaining how the images are aligned and stretched. And most of the other covered topics are described detailed, too. But I wonder if and what is missing. The process of “bringing out the details” (se...

Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

Hi Ivo & Martin, really, that’s far too kind  . Of course, ST is greatly designed to be used without nuts and bolts, bits and bytes and even without too many graphs, diagrams or whatever. But AP really isn’t a simple subject and I think diving a bit deeper can help to get a better understandin...

Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

For me, it was interesting to see, what happens to the square wave: 2024-02-07 19_14_24-Window.jpg The sharp edges contain a great amount of high frequencies (as explained in a post above) and these components get amplified, even if the base freqency is very low. Playing around with different settin...

Interesting to see what happens when you turn off protection (yes, it clips! :D )

Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

I created a folder and moved the new version of the tool into it: https://c.web.de/@334960167135216273/RxV2hsc1QoqHkgEbEa4R7w In addition, there are the two synthetic images mentioned above: sine-sweep.tif square-sweep.tif The brightness levels of the waves shown are between 25 % and 75 %. The new v...

Re: IC 2944 Running Chicken Nebula in SHO

Nice, well done, Martin! :) I like the not cropped version a little more, because of image composition and the neat contrasts, I think. After looking at some broadband images of this object I understand that Ha is much stronger than OII and SII. It mainly seems to be a H-II region. And of course hav...

Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

But wouldn't the low frequency outside of the largest range chosen be..."6"? Oh yes, your're right Mike. Ivo mentioned both, frequencies too low and too high. (For me, I'm not sure, if 'too high' is possible in our case?!) I generated two synthetic images, one with square waves and the other one wi...
