Trying to find out what I'm doing wrong

Post by adobo76 »

Did an initial autodev and keep. This is the result:

Looks like a great deal of vignette but the corners are redish. Not black.
Then I cropped it.
Then I went to wipe.

Instead of getting a nice uniform black background I get something like this.
After initial wipe
After initial wipe

With the temp autodev it looks like this.
After Initial wipe with temp autodev

It seems that playing with the aggressiveness makes the background dark red color more uniform but I can't get that solid black background like Ivo did in his 2hr+ tutorial.
Playing with the settings a bit and getting a dark red speckled background in wipe allows me to manually develop it to get a black background but it introduces lots of noise and the results just aren't that great.

Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong?

Did you take any flat frames?

They would help with the vignetting.

Also try applying the vignetting pre-set when usuing wipe.

Did you try putting the ROI over the target area nebula when using Autodev?

I've tried the other things you'd mentioned but I've never tried using flats yet.

I'll need to figure that out and try it with my next shoot.

Thanks.

From your screen shots, I'm guessing you haven't a licence yet?

If you can post your stacked but unprocessed image in, say, a Dropbox folder, I'll have a go (I'm still pretty much a beginner) and see if a different result is possible?
