.279 Crashed on Selection of Colour Module - one time only

Post by Rowland »

EDIT: This was one time only and suspect Linux memory hungry program in background was cause. No further crash with same data set.

StarTools 1.3.5.279 Crashed on selection of colour module

Image size:
1993 x 1327 - 35% full frame - no problems with previous image size 1800 x 1100

System:
xubuntu 13.1_64bit - 4 core i5, 8GB RAM - Swap 6GB (mainly for Darkroom) plenty of room in /tmp - no memory problems that I am aware of...

Image log file details:

Thanks for reporting this Rowland.
Hmmmm.... most peculiar - I haven't seen ST crash for months now!
Is this a replicable issue with that same data set?
Was Tracking on when you launched the Color module?

Ivo. Tracking was on. I ran the same process again. No crash this time. I noticed that this data set was quite hungry. I am not sure in the first instance that processing had terminted when leaving Life. Possibly something else chewing memory in the background. On this occassion, only Thunderbird and Firefox open, during processing.

The suspect is Darkroom, which was open on the first occassion. I had to increase my swap partition to 8GB to get it working. I have since noticed that LightZone slows down considerably with Darkroom open - had quite a few freezes with Darkroom - think its time to uninstall, as much as I like it. I have also just installed Swapspace to manage swap a bit more intelligently, though I'm not sure how effective it is.

Definately memory but not StarTools.

Ok, thanks for that Rowland. Please keep an eye on this for me - it's much appreciated! ST *is* a memory hog...

Compared to the aforementioned image processing program its actually very efficient use of memory.
