Need Help with Save Function

Update: I added the extension .tiff to the filename and saved it. Now I would like to know how to enable my "Save as Type" box to included various file types such as Tiff, JPEF, FITs, etc. Does anyone know if this a Windows function (Win 10) or if this is controlled by ST?

Randy

Hi folks,

I just received my registration yesterday and am having fun learning. Here is my problem:

When I saved my first file, the box "Save as Type" only offers "All files" as an option. When I click save, I get "File type not supported, would you like to save this file as a Tiff instead?" I click "Save as a Tiff", the error message goes away, but when I go to the location where I am trying to save the file, nothing is there.

I've looked through the postings on this board at similar issues, but never could figure out what the solution or fix is. Can anyone who has seen this problem help.

Thanks,

Randy Roy

Hi Randy,

StarTools currently only outputs 16-bit TIFF files and 8-bit JPEG files (the latter more as a courtesy than as a recommended output option).
I'd recommend using something like The GIMP (free download) for further conversion or beautification.

I have some work to do on the Windows file dialog it seems.

Hope this helps,

The save function in Startools doesn't work quite the same way as other Windows software, you need to type the extension in the file name box. So if you have loaded Autosave.fits, when you go to save, change the .fits to .tiff or .jpg and Startools will save the file in the appropriate format.

Thanks very much for the responses. This is no problem and I just wanted to make sure I'm doing this correctly. I'm very pleased with Star Tools and find it much easier to use than a capture and processing program I used in the past.
