Saving work in Star Tools while keeping Tracking active?

Post by astroguy »

Hi,

Could anyone please tell me if being able to save a work in progress in Star Tools to resume at a different time without turning off the Tracking function has been added to Star Tools yet? I am really liking the program but this would be very helpful to me. If it is not an option yet will it probably be a while before we can do this in Star Tools?

Thanks,

Hi,

Unfortunately this is currently not possible. This feature request comes up now and then, but the main thing holding this back is storage space - the analysis files generated while Tracking is on can be several gigabytes in size (and that's LZ4 compressed!), so routinely storing archives of these can really quickly eat up your available storage space (especially on machines equipped with only a small SSD drive).

This will definitely be implemented at some stage as storage capacities catch up.

+1 for this or alternatives (see below)

I don't need to save tracking data all the times but sometime I need to go along a path to understand whether params in several modules are ok, so I need one of the three

- save tracking data
- more undo levels
- "re-playing" the log file up to a certain point (in order not to do it by hand)
