Installing in Ubuntu 18.04

Post by AstroOlly »

Hi all,
I am fairly new to startools in windows, but am now using a Linux based PC for full control of my imaging rig and also now processing with ST..
So as a Linux newbie too, can someone give me an idiot proof guide to installing ST on my Ubuntu machine, I have downloaded the file and thats it, I seem to have got stuck....so from this point what do I do....?? :)
Thanks
Olly

Welcome to StarTools and Linux!

It couldn't be simpler. Go to the "distro" folder where the zip was downloaded and click on "startools64". That's it!

Hi,
Thanks for the reply
Well actually that’s what I tried and thought I was doing something wrong, as it just throws and error...I was hoping it was that simple, just like, loading on a windows PC, but does not work...
I have the latest Ubuntu 18.04.1...and is all updated..
One thing I will add is I am using a 4K monitor...

Actually I meant startool-linux-64 - but I guess that's obvious. Perhaps Ivo or someone else could help? It could be permission issues but I'm not sure what the error said. It would be helpful to know. I run Linux Mint which is basically Ubuntu re-skinned and have no issues.

Thanks Richard for helping a fellow Linxu user - it's much appreciated!

Glad you got it sorted Olly.

As for creating a link on your desktop, Right-click > Create Launcher, and put the following under Command:

Code: Select all

bash -c "cd /home/Olly/whereever-startools-is-located/distro && ./StarTools-Linux64"
The above will change to the right directory first, then launch the StarTools executable.

Hope this helps!
