Re: M13 fighting with city lights

Thank you so much for your time! For my understanding, how is the Lens module actually working? If I am not wrong, coma is not a field distortion, it is an object one, so the geometry of the FOV should not be changed but the action should be performed on the stars only. I imagine it like a variable ...

Re: M13 fighting with city lights

First of all, thank you! Coming to your comments, the uneven light cast from ~3 o’clock could be due to the Moon which was almost full. I captured the flats with the scope in a different position, this could lead to this lack of attenuation, does it sound reasonable? About the big donut, I don’t kno...

Re: M13 fighting with city lights

Hi Ivo, Sorry, I should have provided such information. It is a stack assembled by Astap and includes light frames as well as dark frames and flat. No other processing has been performed, just calibration and stack. I don’t have the full details here with me but all the frames were taken by a KAF830...

M13 fighting with city lights

Dear all, after some months of very busy work, the lockdown gave me the chance to spend a few hours with astrophotography. Unfortunately I have some city lights very close and they get into the pictures, as you can see in the linked M13. Is there anybody so kind to help me with this image? I would r...

Re: Veil nebula

Hi, First of all this image is really beautiful, my compliments to both of you! Bob, which setup did you use to capture this image? I am using an unmodded Nikon and looking at this image encourages me a lot. Ivo, saying “Color balancing LP-filtered data is always tricky/impossible” do you mean that ...

Re: When is binning needed?

Hi,
thank you for explaining in details about binning. Actually, I was aware of some of the background about this topic but I needed some practical hints to understand when stopping reducing the resolution and I got them in your answer.

Thanks again

Save session log

Hi,
When saving an image it would be useful to have a way to save the session log file, maybe with the same name assigned to the image file.
This should, probably, depend on a specific configuration flag or on a checkbox in the “save” dialog.

Thank you!

When is binning needed?

Hello,
May you help understanding how to decide to use binning? Is there any method helping to determine when it is time to use it and how much?

Thanks

Re: The way to M31

Hi, I would also move the log file to a new name and let StarTools create a new one so to have a lighter file to examine. If you chose a naming convention you can archive your log files, this would let you retrieve the steps you performed for each image. This makes me think that it would be nice to...
