Re: Repair Module
Hi Melty, I definetely agree on the Redistribute part here. Mostly I don't need Repair at all, thanks to my APO but if I do, I usually use Warp. Sometimes Redistribute creates "Saturn-like" globs with surrounding rings. I think that this is highly dependent on the star mask, and this is where improv...

Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition
these are _local_ contrast enhancements and for me _local_ contrast enhancements are always a ‘ manipulation of reality’ Hi, I'd say in this regards, all Post Processing would be a manipulation of reality. Think of an Arcsinh stretch, White balancing or whatever. The key point is the conditions det...

Re: StarTools 1.9 Beta
Hi, thanks for the straightforward procedure the unquarantine process worked for me with following changes: 1) The "Terminal in Folder command is hidden in a sub menu. In the menu that opens upon Ctrl-click, You'll need to select "Dienste" (services) first to open the sub menu 2) sh u didn't auto-co...

Re: Sky Glow parameter in FilmDev
Hi,
Jeff's idea for black point touch up might be a potential feature for a (future) touch up module: introducing subtle dithering, e.g. using Denoise's "Grain Equalization" parameter, while adjusting black point. Thus it would apply signal theory properly, avoiding clipping.
Clear Skies,
Jochen

Re: OptiDev final stretch ‘Ignore Fine Detail’ (pre-) setting
Hi Dietmar, This might be a non-issue, leaving the IFD after BIN the same value as before BIN is the real issue here Whether or not You set IFD in the initial stretch, WIPE will always carry over the IFD of the final stretch! Consequently, If you choose to BIN, You'd have to readjust IFD anyway, so ...

Re: Mosaics+calibration frames+stitching+StarTools: How?
Hi kodo, the thing with the flats is: 1) If You just intend to calibrate for vignetting, You would just need one set of flats per orientation of Your optical train. In such case, a 3x3 blur of the flat may help reducing noise. 2) Flats are also used to compensate for dust specks, stains etc., though...

Hi Ron,
as Shrink works with color data, You should use Color module first to include color information in the image and avoid such error

Re: StarTools 1.9 preview
Hi All, I just tried to replicate Derek's crash on MacOs with Alpha 554, but was not successful. Both options LargeUI=true and highdpi=true worked well without crash and created a star mask when hitting the "AutoMask - "Stars option. I have not tried both setting= true, though. Probably this does no...

Re: StarTools 1.9 preview
Hi, my suggestion to relief the mini hickup situation: 1) By default, the "Space"(Stars visible) preset would set Synthetic PSF to zero awaiting the user to click a sample star. 2) It would also preset to only 1 sampled iteration or two, until the user is has selected all stars. 3) Potentially it co...
