Re: Saving images to print

That does help, thank you. I will use your formula for future calculations. Is it you opinion/experience that 300 DPI is a minimum for good quality printing or is it dependent on what you are printing on? I have done quite a bit of research but have not found much info on image quality requirements ...

Saving images to print

I have been saving all my work as PNG files and learned today when I went to a photography print shoo that the DPI is way too low. I am not able to see what this number is anywhere, but the guy at the shop said it was at 90DPI. How do I save an image from ST with DPI of at least 300? Also, after an ...

Re: Workflow and Image quality troubleshooting

Ivo, My understanding is that calibrating means that you stacked with darks and flats. What do you mean when you say "data in your stacks (in the form of light frames) is not necessarily bad, it just doesn't seem like it is calibrate"? Going back to an initial item, I am following your tutorial (htt...

Re: Workflow and Image quality troubleshooting

Thanks, Ivo. I am going to re-review all of the tutorials on the website and start from scratch. I know there is a little uneven lighting in my backyard that I need to overcome but there must also be basic items I am overlooking to get good results. Do you mind sharing the steps you used on the imag...

Re: Workflow and Image quality troubleshooting

Thanks, Happy Kat. I went over the settings in DSS with Ivo and confirmed those, particularly the No White Balance.

When you say zig zag trails, what do you mean? I ask because I do not see them (or do not know what to look for)

Re: Workflow and Image quality troubleshooting

Here is the FITs of just the lights stacked. The file also has the image I have from my completed Startools processing (using lights, darks but NO flats due to the poor quality)

Re: Workflow and Image quality troubleshooting

Thanks Burly and Ivo! "It's just that it's very hard for people (and algorithms) to figure out what is real nebulosity and what is artificially introduced light/gradient right now. It's the one thing holding you back" In regards to the above comment, I feel like I am at a standstill at the moment or...

Re: Workflow and Image quality troubleshooting

Thanks, IVO. I will do that. Thank you for the example. Where should the histogram be after the flat image is captured? Or does it really matter? Did you have any time to look at the processed image (without the flats) I had in the same link? It looks like it is getting there but something is not qu...

Re: Workflow and Image quality troubleshooting

Oops, sorry about that. Here is a better link. I also put one of the flats in there. The only light source I could get to place the histogram close to the center was doing it outside, somewhat of a cloudy day. I tried a white screen Ipad and the histogram was all the way to the left. I am open to a ...

Re: Workflow and Image quality troubleshooting

Ivo, Out of curiosity, I removed the flats that were bad and restacked. I followed the same workflow as above, undid tracking before Denoise and this was the result. I have not had the chance to redo the flats but did not think not having flats would result in the noise/graininess. Due to my inexper...
