Re: OSC Faux SHO failing in Compose import

Thanks guys, this gives me some things to look at. Perhaps at the end of the day I may just determine that there isn’t enough OIII to make it worth while, but up to that point I’d like to experiment as per your suggestions. No hen: You suggested to bypass extracting HA and OIII with the L Extreme pr...

Re: OSC Faux SHO failing in Compose import

Mike: I was able to batch crop the 3 images in APP. Unfortunately it took the widest of the 3 images and cropped to it. Even knowing this I cropped again and there still was a void on the right of 2 of the 3 images. I took this into Star Tools and it did allow me to compile. My results were very dis...

Re: OSC Faux SHO failing in Compose import

Mike, As far as the APP narrowband; the OIII and Ha were extracted separately. This produced a couple mono looking Fits files. The SII was extracted as SII by itself and it also resulted in a mono appearing Fits file. If we were to assume that the pairing couldn't be made due to a dimensional differ...

OSC Faux SHO failing in Compose import

About a year back I learned a Faux SHO technique from Ivo in which I brought in Red as SII, Green as HA and Blue as OIII. It is faux because I am using a one shot color camera. (ASI533MCPro) I am using the Luminance Extreme filter for the HA and OIII. I am using a dedicated SII filter for the SII. I...

Re: NGC6979 Losing it's ethereal beauty when imported to Star Tools

Hi Paul, that looks like a great result - really deep! Would you mind sharing the specs like scope, camera and integration time? Would be interesting to know! Adjusting the black point is also always a challenge for me...my images tend to have a background which is too dark IMHO, but otherwise it l...

Re: NGC6979 Losing it's ethereal beauty when imported to Star Tools

Nice one Paul! It seems you found your ethereal again. From what I can tell, the overall black point isn't necessarily too bad. If you were to open up your jpg here in like Gimp, and put a pointer in one of the darker spots towards the bottom of the image, the RGB levels are in the teens...

Re: NGC6979 Losing it's ethereal beauty when imported to Star Tools

Very excellent advice Mike! I believe that it was all coming apart with the Wipe. I never tried Narrowband before but it minimally effected the structure of nebulosity. I also never tried taking over a full Auto Develop before, but it held together. I did tweak with the other settings within Auto De...

NGC6979 Losing it's ethereal beauty when imported to Star Tools

I have been observing that my Star Tools processing of the Veil Nebula region is throwing away a lot of it's misty beauty and replacing it with something akin of an electrical storm. My stacking is done in Astro Pixel Processor. I have taken care to use the most favorable stacking settings in APP fo...

Re: Struggling with image background with new CMOS camera

Holy Toledo, I was already blown away by the first image. The second one deserves a place in a gallery. It's also a great lesson to me "It is much easier to improve good data than repair bad data." :greetings-clapyellow: Thanks so much for your positive feedback. I can still see my stacking/process...

Re: Struggling with image background with new CMOS camera

Paul I've had that kind of noise quite a bit. Your eventual result did a good job on it though. For me, what helps to avoid it is random dithering (I just learned an important lesson from using spiral dithering), lots of integration, and only AutoDev stretching to the amount the overall data actual...
