Re: Light Pollution filter setting for Color module

Hi Mike, I think you may have put me on the right track. After stacking the two sets of images, one with the L-Pro filter and one with the UV/IR cut filter, and registering them together, I loaded the L-Pro stack with Open → Linear, cropped it, ran Wipe and saved it. I loaded the second stack in Com...

Re: Light Pollution filter setting for Color module

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the detailed clarification. One question, why do I need to run Wipe and save the L-Pro Luminance and the composed RGB,RGB(Legacy) color stacks if I will be combining the pre-Wipe versions of those L and color stacks in Compose?

Thanks again,
Jeff

Re: Light Pollution filter setting for Color module

Hi Mike, Thanks for the ideas to try. I am using an OSC camera. I am trying with a Luminance stack with the L-Pro filter and a stack for color with the IR/UV filter. I save each after wipe (being careful to use the exact same crops; didn't bin). I did not stretch with AutoDev or FilmDev before savin...

Re: Light Pollution filter setting for Color module

Thanks for the info almcl. I think the question becomes: Is there a way to separately wipe OSC Luminance and OSC RGB data sets (including pre-Wipe bin and crop), load them into their respective channels in Compose, and process those channels in the regular way with the post-Wipe StarTools modules? A...

Re: Light Pollution filter setting for Color module

Hi Jochen,

I changed the extension of the two saved TIFF files to FITS. I loaded them in Compose and ST seemed to accept them just fine. However, again when I got to Color the no-Wipe warning popped up and the image was only in black and white.

Re: Light Pollution filter setting for Color module

Hi Jochen, Thanks for the suggested work flow. However, how do I save the two stacked wiped results as FITS files? The Save function results in TIFF files. After they are loaded in Compose for Lum and RGB, when I get down to the Color module it gives me the warning that Wipe has not been use and ren...

Re: Light Pollution filter setting for Color module

Hi Jochen, Great post with very interesting ideas. I know imaging from my home in a very light polluted setting is not desirable but I am just trying to make the best of a bad situation. Your suggestion to use shorter color light frame exposures is not something I had considered. I had been pushing ...

Re: Light Pollution filter setting for Color module

Hi Ivo,

Thank you for that excellent explanation. I will certainly try the recommendation to use a LP filter data set for Luminance in Compose and an unfiltered set for the Color.

Thanks again,
Jeff

Light Pollution filter setting for Color module

Hi Ivo, I understand that broadband light pollution filters create data sets that prevent the Color module from rendering good coloring. I live in a very light polluted Bottle 8-9 neighborhood. Using a LP filter such as Optolong L-Pro helps a lot in capturing images that have a considerable amount o...

Re: Help with WIPE

I'm with Henry back on his original post -- I still can't get when Wipe had done its job as best as it can with the data it has to work with. I understand its aggressive stretch to identify problems that need to be masked out. But I image in a Bottle 8-9 area and have a lot of light pollution and gr...
