Re: M 20

Thanks, Ron! As for the stars - it's kind of odd, because I look at your image and the mass of Milky Way stars don't bother me. It must be something about staring at them all up close and personal all the way through several rounds of processing that makes them seem more problematic. I get what you ...

M 20

Continuing last year's low dec challenge (https://forum.startools.org/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2848)...I pointed the scope at M 20, not rising higher than 18° from my location. https://cdn.astrobin.com/thumbs/ZFOP5L597aiT_16536x0_ieTZ0INm.jpg Conditions haven't been easy but for being so close to the ho...

Re: Cat's Eye Nebula

Hi Ron, that looks really good. Due to the high dynamic range it's a pretty tough target as far as I know. I haven't dared trying it, also because of the fact that the core is so bright it gives diffraction spikes with a Newt... I am bit surprised that HDR didn't have an impact on the core. Did you ...

Re: M63 - interrupted by - Aurora Borealis

Hi Dietmar, sorry for my late answer! Thanks for pointing out the purple cast. It's not particularly strong and as you said, many M 63 images look similar. But it's been my impression there could be a bit more differentiation of colors. How did you get your NGC 3718 so bright? Well, part of t...

Re: M63 - interrupted by - Aurora Borealis

You just have to love that galaxy. Amazing details, Dietmar  . And a well tamed core! Did you use HDR? I have the impression that the galaxy has a slight purple color cast overall. In my experience the core is yellowish and the spiral arms have some blue in them. Maybe the channel alignmen...

Re: ngc3718

Well done  Looks effortless which means quite something with such a difficult target. I like the faint stuff of the galaxy, the details in its companion and the rotation of the galaxy. :bow-yellow:

Re: NGC 3718

With the opportunity of some clear nights I revisited NGC 3178, a warped spiral galaxy with its companion NGC 3729 and the Hickson compact group #56. Really cool target but not so easy. Hoped to get more faint stuff around NGC 3718 but with some thin clouds still being around that hasn't been in the...

Re: m65

Hi Steve, very well done :bow-yellow: Stars look great, overall processed with decent style. And do I see the stellar stream of the Hamburger Galaxy? I guess the image contains quite some integration time. And that the full res version looks pretty impressive. May I ask what your settings for color/...

Re: NGC 4151 and NGC 4145

Thanks, Freddy! And yes, I also heared the noise of rain hitting the window quite often lately. But the cloud cover since January is even more annoying. Let's hope for the best.

Re: M94 an in-progress fool's errand (and an experiment)

Great image, Ron. I know it's not an easy target (https://www.astrobin.com/m47syf/) and I love the amount of detail in the core and the dust lanes you got. I tried to shoot with 5 min subs but overexposed the core. So I ended up with shooting 1 min subs for the core and layering both images (as is c...
