M27 with Starnet++ V2

Hi all, Sunday night has been unusual clear for my location and with quite good seeing as well and so I decided to take a try on M27, despite to the still missing astronomical darkness here in the middlewestern part of Germany. m27-layer-1-1.jpg 200/1000 GSO Newton Baader MPCC EOS 2000D (unmod.) 67 ...

Re: Startools Prerequisite No Background Calibration

Martin, don't be frustrated. I also had problems with my first attempts running ASTAP, but Mike convinced my to go on ;) If you like, take some time and a quite moment and try again step by step. I was too unfocused and impatient at first and just wasted time. But as said, sticking with DSS will be ...

Re: M17 first “serious” attempt with startools

James, I like your new version much more than the first :thumbsup: . What do you think? BTW: It is absolutely necessary to use the wipe module before doing the final stretch (with AutoDev oder FilmDev). This is due to the very unique signal tracking feature ST uses. This might explain the blown out ...

Re: Startools Prerequisite No Background Calibration

Hi Martin, I used DSS before I lately changed to ASTAP (for the moment), and I still think, it's a great piece of software. I used "Kappa-Sigma Clipping" and "No background calibration" and this was quite OK for me, as far as I can judge. Following our discussion here, your decision will be a tradeo...

Re: M17 first “serious” attempt with startools

Hi James, that's a fine looking M17 you captured there :thumbsup: And this first "serious" attempt using ST looks very much much better than my first attempts ;) Would you mind to tell us about some technical data regarding the equipment you used and image acquisition data as well? And people here c...

Re: Startools Prerequisite No Background Calibration

Hi Martin, As I use Kappa Sigma clipping method to stack , then it is a requirement that I choose background calibration That's certainly true, but I suppose, this means, you will I have to accept the downsides of this decision for the processing in ST. On the other hand, I'm not sure, how severe th...

Re: Startools Prerequisite No Background Calibration

Hi Martin, Ivo helped me with two posts concerning background calibration: https://forum.startools.org/viewtopic.php?p=12393#p12393 https://forum.startools.org/viewtopic.php?p=12444#p12444 At least it has impact on noise level weighting between the colour channels (last post), and the the weighting ...

Re: First Light New Astro Rig NGC 6744 Pavo Galaxy

Martin, I would have to lie saying I’m not jealous. Congratulations to your new rig! And its great, that you built it yourself. :thumbsup: Before I read your last post, I wondered about “Klaus Helmerich”. This sounds so obviously German, so I searched for that name and I found this website: http://w...

Re: M8 Lagoon under a waxing Moon

Hi Martin, what a great image! I really don’t know, which version looks best … IMHO it’s mainly a matter of taste to prefer traditional switches and levers or not. And to be honest, there are some sliders in ST that are pretty hard to understand even having read the documentation and one needs a lot...

Re: NGC 7000

A great picture you have got there, Freddy! I like the subtle coloring. It's always difficult for me to decide how much saturation to set, but here you seem to have succeeded well. And as said, it's fasccinating to see, how much red your 800D captures. Unsettled weather is in the forecast for the ne...
