Re: Owl + Surfboard

With the '16-bit tranches' in the latest beta I figured now was a good to to revisit the data. I also realized that I could cheat a bit - because the "nebula" parts of the image are quite small. So I processed twice and Layered the two together. Hi Ron, yes I'm also glad that we now have a means to...

Re: NGC6914 HaRGB 8h total- Bortle8

Looks great, Carles :) . Amazing to see, what's possible for you under Bortle 8 skies. :bow-yellow: "Usual ST workflow" means processing with NB Accent, I suppose? I still have to try that, too. But weather here doesn't allow for it. Clouds, rain and still missing astrodark :( Why do you stack with ...

Re: presentation questions

Here are some impressions on how the new "Brightness Tranches" setting works. Processing was: Bin 71% preset, Crop, Wipe Basic preset but aggressiveness boosted up to 96% because of some gradients. Then OptiDev, IFD about 6 px and ROI as shown. "Brightness Tranches" setting increased from 10 up to 1...

Re: IC 4628 Prawn Nebula

Hi Martin, All of your last images are of excellent quality. Seems that you figured out everything to perfection. And thanks for mentioning your experience using AutoDev vs. FilmDev in this case. Very interesting. I guess we will have some more discussions regarding OptiDev ... but I hope...

Re: presentation questions

I think I remember that from Andy, but thought it was before the latest OptiDev fix? I agreed with his sentiment, but was of the opinion that old OptiDev-AutoDev was causing some of that harshness, and again due to the stellar profile problem as we have found. But I'd have to go back to old threads...

Re: presentation questions

I find the stretches of autodev to be very conservative and low contrast - especialy in the later versions of startools Yes the latest release can give a feeling of being muted after OptiDev, relative to what we were probably all used to. This came about from increasing bit depth...or something lik...

Re: a number os isues

It's like I have a new computer. I like the fact that you you're not throwing away old hardware and that you are running Linux. In the past I always assembled my PCs by myself and installed Linux on them. The only reason that I'm currently using Windows is because it came pre-installed o...

Re: M63 - interrupted by - Aurora Borealis

Polar lights visible way down in Southern California! Who would have thought?! I was ill-prepared. :( I was ill-prepared, too. Mostly, because I just didn’t believe that there would be anything to see or to photograph. And than I only had my compact camera mounted onto a super tiny tripod, crawling ...
