Re: Donut stars

Yeah I think that makes sense, Ron. Though Dietmar I'm still interested in your app and wanting to know what the X and Y axes represent! I chewed on it some, and even (sorry Dietmar!) created a little synthetic image of 10 increasing brightness bars in Gimp from black to white, and then played aroun...

Re: Donut stars

Hi Dietmar, A for effort once again! But, I need some help understanding what we are looking at. You said there's a comparison of pixel mapping per file, resulting in....? :confusion-shrug: The first sample shows two lines, both post stretch. How are we seeing the differences applied to pixe...

Re: Mosaic processing

I am no mosaic expert, having only done a couple. They seem inherently difficult, trying to get so many things to match across the panels from gradients, to color balance, to the non-linear stretching. True even if stitching linear rather than all post-processed. But, so many different ways to go ab...

Re: Donut stars

Thanks again, Ivo! An interesting discussion and of course upgrade, though I admit I am still trying to wrap my head around things. :? I will keep reading and thinking though. And cool background on OptiDev. So it's scoring likely activity to determine how to curve things. Kind of explains why we ca...

Re: Donut stars

Here's a quick chart with colored buckets for each pixel across the middle of the star. Interesting graphic representation of stretching, huh? When I have time I'll try to add more distance on either side to get the full star profile down to the background level. And who knows maybe add some other s...

Re: Donut stars

As for 16/32, it's a bit awkward in Siril to keep swapping back and forth (really, to remember to go a couple of menu levels deep to make the switch) to calibrate and register in 16-bit then stack in 32-bit, so I just had it default to 32-bit. I will have a go at changing my habits. Mike: is it jus...

Re: Donut stars

Thanks for the work, Ivo! The highlights stretching of DSO is less aggressive, as probably expected, and so will take some changing of ROI and IFD as well as perhaps kick some more work into the enhancing modules. Will be interesting to see how this all works in SVD and if that needs adju...

Re: Donut stars

My thoughts about acquisition and stacking were more in line with things like dithering, and avoiding any kind of cosmetic correction which could alter linear profiles. Now, it's possible we are all doing the same kind of things...saturating at least some stars is a given. And probably unavoidable. ...

Re: Donut stars

New version 0.0.3 is online: This is a C# .NET 4.8.1 app. I know, this is the dark side of the force ... but who cares? I've done worse things in my life. Best regards, Dietmar. Awesome, Dietmar. Thanks. Dark side? Well, what is the good side of the Schwartz then? ;) I don't...

Re: Donut stars

Much wow here. Not diving too deeply into things for a Friday night after an awful commute. But a few thoughts nonetheless... I guess perception really is everything! It's almost as if our brains are creating their own extra acutance at the points of change, even though what we see doesn't mat...
