Re: First time out

Yeah Patrick there's a few things you can do differently here, and one that you for sure need to do - which is consult the Sharpcap manual. ;) You can certainly post-process the final live stack result (use the 32 bit FITS to open in ST) and I would think you will be able to enhance it greatly and r...

Re: StarTools 1.9 preview

Thanks for the work, Ivo. :bow-yellow: The controls do allow customization which results in improvement over 551. Plus, the speed! Experimenting and working on some comparison side-by-sides, trying different things, so will post those up once finished. Are IFD and DAF etc still incorporated ...

Re: M20 Trifid Nebula from NexDome Obs

Mike, The green cast is definitely light pollution Same camera , same Gain , same exposure lengths , same cooling, same Laptop and only a small difference in focal length I also initially tested my 10” at my city suburban location , green cast as well Martin Thanks for the explanation, I think I ge...

Re: WIP, my first M101, featuring Holmberg IV

Here's a full field biggie res link to astrobin of my last processing. I think, SN and all, I'm a bit worn out on M101 so this might be the final.

But, anything anyone sees that needs fixing or a re-do?

Re: StarTools 1.9 preview

Yeah Ron you are probably on to something, and Ivo has recently mentioned the fully saturated core issue. I wonder if it's that alone, or would also have anything to do with the sample sizing? Not like we would choose that sample anyway, since it would probably have a red core. :confusion-shrug: I g...

Re: M20 Trifid Nebula from NexDome Obs

Well, I don't know APT. All the green is light pollution?

I otherwise would not be able to tell. The scales are quite different also so hard to match. I could go look at your other recent images and double check which Newt has the longer focal length maybe. Both seem to look awfully good.

Re: WIP, my first M101, featuring Holmberg IV

I threw my extra hour that has the SN into the whole pot for an 8-hour stack. :D Bizarrely, to me anyway, rejection and averaging did not wipe out the SN, despite the 7:1 ratio. However, the color was all wrong, showing up in orange rather than the correct blue-white. Well, at least I had something ...

Re: StarTools 1.9 preview

Yeah Carles, the new SVD and deringing regime can be a bit finicky, dare I say tempermental? ;) Your shadowing is really shifted though, which kind of points towards a bad sample. Were you loading PSF's at all? I actually ran across that little snafu tonight after a restack that was very very simila...

Re: First time out

Hi Patrick, :text-welcomewave: Like Dietmar says, I guess it depends on what your question is as to the right guidance. If you mean you want to post-process the live stack results from SC, then yes save as the deepest quality (at least 16 but hopefully 32 bit) FITS you can, though TIFF might be poss...

Re: WIP, my first M101, featuring Holmberg IV

Thanks Ivo. :bow-yellow: I think just to feel better about myself, I'll stack the SN hour in with the prior data. That way I'm just replacing things (supernovae, spaceships running away full throttle) removed by sigma rejection. ;) I'll slowly get my head around NewSVD with time, feeling out how it ...
