Re: Laplacian Filter

Ivo,

Yes I am thinking about edge detection and enhancement. Please elaborate on how the Gaussian could be used. I would think that this would have the opposite effect.

Thanks.

Laplacian Filter

In the layers module, how about adding a Laplacian filter? I knw the Sobel filter is there but adding a second order filter could provide more possibilities.

Re: CPU/GPU Resource Usage

Thanks I'll check that out. I also now see that I should have gone over to the main site where the use of the GPU is explained in more detail.

CPU/GPU Resource Usage

I am running ST on a Windows 10 laptop with an AMD Ryzen 7 4800 with integrated AMD Radeon Graphics and a dedicated NVidia GTX1660 GPU. In a recent processing session I was monitoring resource usage and noticed that ST was using 100% of my CPU and not utilizing the GPU at all. I am running the Windo...

Re: wavelet (frequency) decomposition

Ivo, Thank you for the quick response. I understand what you are saying about the noise reduction. I am coming at this from the perspective of one who has used the wavelet controls or whatever its called in various photo processing applications. I recognize that StarTools works differently. Also I w...

wavelet (frequency) decomposition

I understand that the sharpening works on various levels of detail. I assume that you are using the wavelet decomposition (frequency) technique. Have you considered extending this so that one could go in the opposite direction and "smooth out" areas of greater detail (higher frequency) so they don't...

Re: Bringing out very faint detail

OK, I see that it's just going to take practice, trying out different settings, and learning all the modules options.

Bringing out very faint detail

What are the best tools and techniques for enhancing the brightness of details that are just barley visible above the background? For example the very faint arms of galaxies around the brighter cores.

Linear Fit Clipping

I noticed in the unofficial manual that average or winsorized stacking is recommended. Is linear fit clipping (from PI or Siril) not recommended?
