‘Heal’ saved my bacon

Hi Ivo ‘Heal’ is awesome! It’s been months for the weather - and work - to conspire in my favour to provide a chance to image Orion this winter. My humble offering is attached (jpeg only, for size), which is 90mins integration using a Star Adventurer mount, D5300 camera and 66mm ‘frac. Prior to capt...

Re: Landscape astrophotography

Hi Jochen Thanks for your support and advice, both of which are greatly appreciated. I just increased the RAM in my laptop to 32Gb and will give your suggestion a go. V1.8 really pushed my laptop and I found that I was spending as much time waiting for changes to happen, rather than actually process...

Re: Landscape astrophotography

Hi Mike Thanks for taking the time to pen some insights, which are all gratefully received. The unprocessed, but stacked, image does contain some tree detail, but it’s either during Wipe, or subsequently, that I lose it all. That said, it probably looks better without. I’ll certainly give the Layer ...

Landscape astrophotography

Hi all I recently took a short break under dark skies and captured an image of the Milky Way with an uninspiring collection of tree tops for context. The waxing gibbous Moon had just set. I used an untracked D5300 DSLR and Samyang 14mm lens (at f2.8) combo and captured: 20x lights (10sec subs, ISO 1...

Re: Converting Ha Mono to ‘RGB’

Hi Ivo Well, I like many others will look forward to seeing you appear on Netflix soon! Seriously, an updated video would be super as much has changed between 1.5 and 1.8. To answer your question regarding my laptop, my budget restricted me to an HP Pavillion 15-cw1598sa, AMD Ryzen 7 3700U, with Rad...

Re: Converting Ha Mono to ‘RGB’

Ivo Thanks so much for taking the time to draft both of your posts. Of course StarTools can do Solar! Why did I ever doubt it..?! I was actually watching your ‘live’ demo on the Astro Imaging Channel last night: any plans to do something similar for v1.8? I can’t explain how helpful that video (and ...

Re: Converting Ha Mono to ‘RGB’

Hi Jochen That is really very interesting, and timely given that I am now in a bidding war for PS6! I will certainly give this a go, once I can get a decent image. As an aside, in my DSO images I am struggling to bring out the ‘typical’ red hue associated with star forming regions in galactic spiral...

Re: Converting Ha Mono to ‘RGB’

Hi Mike
Grateful for your response. I’ll investigate buying an old version of PS for this purpose: nothing ventured, nothing gained. Doesn’t distract from my admiration of StarTools which continues to work wonders with my data.
Clear skies,
Matt

Re: Converting Ha Mono to ‘RGB’

Mike Thanks. That’s about the sum of it. I read an article elsewhere which said that PhotoShop can assign RGB to greyscale images, hence why I wondered whether there is some trickery in StarTools that can do the same. My StarTools skills are still fairly novice, and I haven’t - yet - started explori...

Converting Ha Mono to ‘RGB’

Hello all I’m trying to ‘persuade’ my Lunt LS35 deluxe Ha Solar scope and ASI120MM to image the Sun. I have an ASI224MC also, but have been advised to use the 120’s superior resolution. My question is, having captured and stacked a suitable AVI movie, is it possible to ‘convert’ it into a pseudo RGB...
