Re: New scope on the way. :)

Well, I ordered the scope, and then a T Adapter...I'm presuming the 2 shipments are 1 for each item. Why the T Adapter couldn't be sent with the scope, I have no idea. :confusion-shrug:

Re: New scope on the way. :)

They're shipping it by carrier slug, in 2 parts. 2nd part won't be here until Tuesday. :(

New scope on the way. :)

Well...not quite on the way just yet. It should ship Monday I think. New Orion ED80T. :) 80mm diameter, 480mm FL, f/6, Apochromatic Triplet glass. Orion had one as a factory second, $130 off regular price :!: I jumped on it. I'm thinking with the lighter weight and shorter FL than my current C6-A 6"...

DSS Saturation Adjustment

Anyone happen to know if DSS's Saturation slider is a linear adjustment or not? I know some "saturation" adjustments (Like Vibrance in Lightroom for example) aren't, and the issue came up elsewhere. :)

Re: Antares Rho Ophiuchus with StarTools

What a gorgeous image, Rowland! Thanks for sharing that! Just keep plugging away with ST...it begins to make more and more sense as you learn how it thinks. :) Jim Misti at Misti Mountain has lots of unstretched data to play with, and you can search by TIFs on astrobin as well. Lots of practice mate...

Hats off to you, Ivo...you've nailed this software, imo. It's become one of my favorite pieces of software in ANY field, ever.

Re: 2013-01-04 - M42, IC 434, NGC 2024, and Orion's Belt

Thanks, Ivo! I really must say, this is the most dramatic piece of work I've done with ST to date. If you get a chance to see the unstretched TIF, you'll note that there's almost NO hint that the Horsehead was even captured, and the Flame Nebula is extremely faint and weak. I thought I MIGHT be able...

Re: StarTools - Not just for stars :)

I wonder what i did wrong then...I saw NO detectable change to the image at all, even with close inspection at 150% zoom.

The change is obvious even at small resolution...so clearly I'm missing something.

I'll go try again, and document my steps...

2013-01-04 - M42, IC 434, NGC 2024, and Orion's Belt

Took my first crack at guided longer exposure wide field work with just DLSR and lens last night. Built a test-run platform to mount a tripod ball-head and the guidescope to the CG 5, and headed outside. Had a few fits and starts, learn a bunch about what I'll want to do differently on the next vers...
