Re: hangs on wipe

I'm having the same problem with wipe when a mask is present, it's unbelievably slow, to the point that it's useless with a mask. I had originally thought that StarTools was just crashing, but it's not, it just takes a really long time. I tested it today with a 5500 x 3600 TIFF file. Without a mask...

White dots in Autodev

I've been busy the last year, so no astrophotos for a while. I just pulled StarTools (latest alpha) for some Aurora pics I took in a flight (curious if it can help - I've never processed aurorae before), and came across this AutoDev bug which reminds me of the one with the Decon module that had to d...

Re: DSS Open sourced!

With DSS now being open source does this mean in theory it could be intergrated into Startools ? And are there any plans to intergrate a stacking module into startools From the DSS readme: Copyright: the source is open, though it doesn't mean that you can create a commercial software from it. That'...

DSS Open sourced!

I just noticed that DSS was open sourced: https://github.com/LucCoiffier/DSS
Perhaps we can now find out how it manages to always white balance the images :)

Re: Horsehead Nebula

Hmm, reading your post I thought I would open it and see the familiar amp glow from liveview (I have forgotten to switch it off after focusing a few times), but that's not it. Dark should not help on this particular issue, but in any case darks are so easy with a Canon DSLR, as the sensor temp is wr...

Re: Temporary AutoDev

And the new autodev, worse than the temp autodev at first, I have to use a ROI: Screen-Shot-2016-11-29-at-9.23.06-PM.jpg It works like that in all my images and all images friends have sent me to help with, which, admittedly, are similar in the sense they are all Canons under the same LP. But I assu...

Re: Temporary AutoDev

Well, I think you have already looked at an example, the one I had uploaded in the whitebalance thread with the heart nebula. All my images behave the same in that respect, so that one too: After first autodev: Screen Shot 2016-11-29 at 9.20.13 PM.png Wipe+temp autodev: Screen-Shot-2016-11-29-at-9.2...

Re: Temporary AutoDev

Huh, I always do autodev before Wipe and I always need temp autodev to see anything. Perhaps because I am under light polluted skies, the original autodev gets saturated easily?

Temporary AutoDev

Is anyone here using Wipe without temporary autodev? If most people set it always "Yes", perhaps it should be the default? Or remember the last thing we set (that would be useful for Mask tools as well). On the subject of autodev, usually temporary autodev gives me a pretty good image usually. Going...

Re: Which filter to use?

What kind of light pollution do you have? LP filters are becoming less effective because of increasing use of LED lighting. The old orange Sodium and white Mercury lights are being quickly phased out - driven by power savings offered by LED lights. Pollution from broadband LED lights cannot be bloc...
