Re: trouble with colours

Richard, Try turning bicubic interpolation on in Regim in the register tab. I had very similar issues with Regim at first, but running a stack with bicubic interpolation on fixed it. This fix also worked for a friend of mine who had the same issue. I'm curious if it works for you. I think you'll fin...

Re: Image calibration, processing and RAW conversion - Linux

Rowland, Old thread I know...I've just discovered how much better Regim is than DSS, but I came across your FAICS program and am working on setting a Linux virtual machine on my Win10 OS to give it a trial run. I notice you've recommended Regim fairly recently though - have you dropped this project,...

Re: Using Regim with StarTools

Well...it seems enabling bicubic interpolation set things right, but when I disable it, I get an equally acceptable result now... Previously I had seen a number of issues, including much less detail than the DSS output, a sort of crosshatch pattern, and color that would not process out in Startools....

Re: Using Regim with StarTools

Matt/Guy, I finally had some success with Regim - bottom line, I had to enable bicubic interpolation on the Register tab, and use the dcraw option in Preferences to get it working. I'm guessing jrawio doesn't support my Nikon D5100. I've been using DSS for some time with good results, but wanted to ...

M16 Eagle Nebula

Thought I'd share my latest shot of M16. Followed a bi-color processing flow with this one, similar to the JPM tone-mapping approach in that I removed the stars before stretching the channels individually. The light frames were shot using a self-modded Nikon D5100 DSLR with an Improved DGM NPB filte...

Re: DGM NPB filter = psuedo-narrowband with DSLR?

On another note, what would be the best way to tone down the semi-square reflections around the brightest stars? I noticed these were somewhat less prominent in the green and blue channels...maybe some sort of mask when building the luminance layer? Or would the heal module be better?

Re: DGM NPB filter = psuedo-narrowband with DSLR?

Thanks for the kind words, Ivo. Regarding the gradients, this shot was taken from my suburban backyard, at an average altitude angle of 45-60deg in the direction of a nearby major city. Despite the sharp cutoffs of the filter outside of the oiii/Hb target range, there is obviously still a lot of lig...

DGM NPB filter = psuedo-narrowband with DSLR?

I recently decided to mod my Nikon D5100, and try a session on the Flaming Star Nebula and IC405 area using only the Improved DGM NPB filter by Omega Optical. This filter allows through the spectrum lines of Hb (486nm) and both Oiii (495.9nm + 500.7nm) in one passband, and Ha (656.3nm) in a second 1...

Re: M42 simple "HDR"

Step 2...added several 240s frames in and combined the previous images for the core. A few aircraft decided to fly by the running man in no less than four of the subs, so more data to be added later.

Re: STv1.4 Speckling With Decon

It might still be working...I honestly can't tell the difference unless I zoom in and click back and forth several times. The difference is very subtle but the best way to describe it is a slight sharpening and decrease in fuzziness in my experience. I usually go with the default settings with my da...
