Re: Processing results not as I expected

That's normal after a wipe. Recall that at the start of your processing, you do an autodev to stretch to the maximum to see what data you actually have, highlight any issues with it etc. You then crop and maybe bin that, before doing a wipe. Wipe does a temporary autodev to show you the result, and ...

Dealing with Dew

So, I've been having real trouble with Dew. Yeah, I know, I should have predicted it and taken steps to prevent it -- I have now, extra dew shield and dew heater on the way -- but I now have images with dew on them that I'd like to work out how best to process. For example, here is a screenshot of m...

Re: Can't seem to get the colours right

Very interesting! Thank you for demonstrating. Your advanced use of masking is a good tutorial, and watching you clean up the dirty data in the first video and pull what you can out of it was fun. I noticed in the first video when loading the individual files to process separately you told StarTools...

Re: Version 1.5.366 crashes on Mac

Just to confirm that 1.5.366 works just fine on my Mac. After I download the new zip file to my Downloads directory, my process is as follows: szymon-macbook:~ szymon$ cd /Applications/ szymon-macbook:Applications szymon$ mv distro distro.old szymon-macbook:Applications szymon$ unzip ~/Downloads/Sta...

Re: Binning...

That - indeed - looks oversampled to me, with the smallest stars taking up a fair few pixels to describe what is essentially a point light. Nice job on the Elephant by the way! Thank you. I am learning so much about processing with StarTools, and enjoying every bit of it :-). I've actually been lea...

Re: Binning...

It is certainly not the case that "all modern data is oversampled". It is often the case however that data acquired with a modern DSLR is oversampled at even moderate magnifications when using the prime focus method (e.g mounting your DSLR without lens to your scope). I assume that also goes for mo...

Binning...

So I've been starting every process I do with binning 2x2, because all of the tutorials show that this is "the right thing to do at the beginning", because "all modern data is oversampled". But then I recently started doing some maths, and I'm not so sure that my images are in fact oversampled, even...
