Re: true colour in globular clusters

I had the exact same problem with m13 some time ago. The scope is a 12.5 RC with RGB filters - taken in Australia under nice dark skies. My guess is that the field of view does not contain the wide variety of stars needed for a proper white balance. I can forward the data to anyone who would like it...

true colour in globular clusters

Hi all Nice to return to the forum after a long time. I've recently imaged 47 Tucanae - globular cluster and found that scientific colour was not able to give the stars the correct colours. In a case where there isn't an evenly balanced variety of stars, how would I achieve the proper white balance?...

Re: NB Accent - multiple data

Mike, I tried the Siril option you described and all I got was a black image. Perhaps I didn't do it right. I'll try again though thought I followed your directions carefully. Anyway, I got impatient and used the blend tool to achieve a balance between rgb and bicolour. Here is my try. https://www.f...

Re: NB Accent - multiple data

Thanks for the suggestion Jochen. I did try it and the software wasn't able to tell what was color - just monochrome.

Re: NB Accent - multiple data

Hi Mike, So sorry to reply to your most generous help this late. I wasn't successful following your advice and the link re: gimp. I'll try again the tell you my results maybe with screenshots. The data is from another version of Tarantula this time taken with hours perhaps days of exposure (challeng...

Re: Tarantula Nebula

Thanks Mike. Though it was a 20' scope, most of the frames were taken either at dusk, very poor seeing etc. Also the Ha set has about half as much exposure as the Oiii - so there was a lot of noise to work around. As usual, I tend to stretch the data to its limits and beyond. So the murkiness as you...

Tarantula Nebula

I imaged this remotely via itelescope at the Siding Springs Observatory. Equipment:. Planewave 20', FLI-PL 09000 CCD The exposures are: 13x180 Ha 22x 180 Oiii Not bad for a 20' but the seeing was terrible and many of the frames were during dusk. The moon was almost full. I struggled with noise and w...

Re: mosaics

Just to add: I've calculated the mosaic coordinates from telescopius and I've set it with a 5% overlap. Is that enough? Default is 10%.

mosaics

Hi, I'm in the process of taking some images for the purpose of a mosaic (2x4). It would be my first try. Does anyone have any thoughts? I'm using Linux. Would I stitch the frames together processed or unprocessed? With the former, I'm assuming the processing steps would need to be identical as the ...
