Re: Donut stars
Now we have to think about why this is happening. A 'plateau' means, that a range of input brightness levels is mapped onto the same output brightness level. I suspect that OptiDev constructs its stretching curve depending on the distribution and weighting of the input brightness levels. So OptiDev ...

Re: Donut stars
No need to share, Ron. I was able to reproduce this easily with my latest own dataset containing saturated stars: Stellar profile as displayed in Fitswork (this is independed of the actual active stretch!): 2024-03-22 17_52_53-Fitswork.jpg FilmDev: 2024-03-22 17_45_48-StarTools.jpg OptiDev (full ROI...

Re: Donut stars
  Of course, the outer bright ring is an illusion. But this 'plateau' around the inner core doesn't seem to be correct. Probably indeed an OptiDev issue, which maybe would explain the reported problems with HDR and SV Decon as well ... ? But we have to dig deeper into it. I would sugg...

Re: Donut stars
Perhaps begin by staying in the linear realm, and thus a linear stretch -- just adjust black and white points enough to (hopefully) begin seeing what's in the pixels where the fluctuations would start happening. Siril should be able to do that readily in linear with the user sliders. Yep! I too thi...

Re: Messier 106 et al.
Though that reminds me too - do you remember if there was a "in the works" features and docs page for 1.9? I thought there was but maybe I dreamed it. I'm still using the main features and docs for my background reading. Sorry, Mike. I can't remember and a quick search and scanning of the 1.9 previ...

Re: Messier 106 et al.
Hi Martin Startrek , thanks for your reply :) . I cannot quote, because this thread is too long and your text is already out of reach. So I will quote the old school manual way ;) Martin wrote: "I’ve persevered with 1.8 SV Decon for over a year and have reluctantly switched back to 1.7 I just can’t ...

Re: Messier 106 et al.
Thank you all! Much appreciated. :) My intention when posting images is not just to do that, but perhaps to start some conversation as well. I guess I succeeded in this case. :P Talking about what we are doing is important in my eyes and why not start it by posting an image? So no one has to be afra...

Re: Forum image posting requirments
Hi Andy, I guess JPEG is just fine. And I think there are no limits regarding the pixel dimensions. File size is limited to about 500 kB. Maybe 600 or 700, I'm not sure. So probably you have to save your images with reduced JPEG quality. Does your software offer this feature?
Best regards, Dietmar.

Re: Messier 106 et al.
Fantastic images and nicely processed, Andy ( AndyBooth ) ! Are they online somewhere? If I saw correctly, you once had an AstroBin account, but you deleted it? Thanks again for sharing your workflow. I heard about APP being a powerful stacker, but I didn't know of it's other capabilities. Gradient ...
