Re: Question on file format - large JPG files needed
Hey Mike! Yes, I got lucky and a magazine agreed to publish my article on astrophotography. I have had a few astronomy/astrophotography articles in local newspapers but this is the first time for a magazine... I'm very excited! My pictures have been getting a little better lately, and I have been us...

Question on file format - large JPG files needed
I will be sending a few astro pictures to a local magazine for publication, and they require my photos be in JPG format, and a minimum of 300dpi and from 3-5MB. They do not accept tiff, or any other type of files. Is there a way that I can save the files in startools as JPGs this size, at the requir...

Re: Assistance needed processing comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF)
Thanks wonky5- I appreciate you processing it. It really helps to see what others do with the same data. I also ended up with a purple or pink hue in several of my attempts. I am going to give this another shot with several different exposure times.

Re: Assistance needed processing comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF)
Thanks Mike. I also took 30-sec subs a few days ago, but with those the tail was way too faint so I increased the exposure time. I have been at this for a few days now... I now have 30, 45, 60, 120 and 180 sec subs to experiment with. Your processing info is very helpful, and I will try processing i...

Assistance needed processing comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF)
HI all, I need some assistance processing this comet. I took 83 60-sec light frames (with an Esprit 100 refractor, EQ6-R mount and asi 294 camera, using Sharpcap), and stacked them in dss using the comet stacking option (dss comet stacking option 3). This resulted in the below autosave file. When I ...

Re: Help needed with horsehead and flame neublas
Thanks Mike. Your version looks a lot better than mine and you seemed to find the right balance. Seems like this is a tough target and there is no way to completely get around Alnitak's dazzling brightness, aside from completely covering it up/eliminating it from the picture, but I don't want to do ...

Re: Help needed with horsehead and flame neublas
Hi almcl,
Thanks for processing the stack! Yes your Alnitak and surrounding stars look much better than mine. Can you attach your log file? I'm interested in learning what you did!
John

Help needed with horsehead and flame neublas
Hello, I imaged the horsehead and flame nebulas together in one frame, and could use some advice on how to reduce the brightness of Alnitak and some of the surrounding stars. I tried adjusting most modules (including dimsmall and isolate in the superstructure module) and can't figure out how to do t...

Re: Can't open file for processing
Thanks... do you know of any way to make startools automatically save it as a TIF file? Or do I need to keep typing in the extension every time I save? When I used to use startools (with my other computer) it automatically saved it as TIF file I think... I don't ever remember having to type in an ex...
