RCW 103—The SNR with a Puzzling Neutron Star

This image and text were uploaded to Astrobin this afternoon. Processed with version 1.8 on my iMac, which is working like a champ. https://www.astrobin.com/7f1gm6/ ****************** RCW 103—The SNR with a Puzzling Neutron Star Here is a visually appealing, but very rarely imaged, supernova remnant...

Re: NomalizeScaleGradient

It may, of course, depending on your dataset ,be worth the trade-off if NormalizeScaleGradient somehow allows PI's stacking to achieve markedly better results, but I can't readily see how that would be the case right now. Hi Ivo. As usual, your thinking is really interesting. Sometimes I look at St...

NomalizeScaleGradient

I use PixInsight for preprocessing. In the PI world, there is a lot of excitement over a new script called "NormalizeScaleGradient." I've only tried it once, followed by post processing in StarTools. StarTools seemed to behave normally, but do any of you have advice on whether this script is compati...

The Eagle and the Swan

I’m not totally enthusiastic about this image, but decided to upload it to Astrobin in spite of my misgivings. You never know about HOO—sometimes it really works, other times it's insipid. At least this is an unusual field of view. I need to cut down exposure from 300 to 180 seconds. That Nikon F2 l...

Re: [WANTED] 1.8 alpha test subjects!

I just want to say that the SVDcon module is plain and simply brilliant, on both by iMac and M1 laptop. To the extent that a little noise is added, it is easily removed in DeNoise. Thank you, Ivo!

Re: [WANTED] 1.8 alpha test subjects!

I have been sending detailed reports to Ivo by email, but I just wanted to let the community know that I haven't had any issues running 1.8 on my iMac (OS 11.4) or my M1 laptop. Yay!

The Lagoon et al

I decided to do some oldies but goodies for a while. This image and text were uploaded to Astrobin this morning. https://www.astrobin.com/m29y0g/ **************************** The Lagoon, Trifid, and Associated Nebula This is familiar territory for most astrophotographers, but I liked this tightly co...

Re: Struggling with M33

Hi Sven, again, Ivo gave you a really useful answer. Locality and HDR are the main tools here. They are spectacular features of StarTools, but sometimes it's hard to know where to stop! I'll mention that I had to fiddle with the color module a lot. Sometimes, the first pass with this module gives a ...
