Re: Questions about star mask & star colors

I'm glad to hear...I've been having so much joy that I had to share it... By the way, I've been meaning to ask you a question about selecting stars, and using the heal and subtract to isolate the stars into a layer. You mentioned something about the setting "New must be darker than", and I've been e...

Re: Building a new system

Hi Ivo, I use a i7 and it's very fast, but I've noticed that when I use AstroTools, and I pull the Task Manager to see the 8 processors going, during certain activities when I push things like 512x512 in processes Life or others, I only see CPU activity in 2-3 processors out of the 8. I don't know w...

Re: Questions about star mask & star colors

I just did my first star layer extraction, and addition to my final image. It was quick and rough, but I could the results. My star cores got a bit bigger, and I tried to the 'Magic' but it was not shrinking them enough...Anyway, my original stars were not great to star with, but I was able to compl...

Re: Questions about star mask & star colors

OK, so I guess what you mean by 'heal' is remove the stars. So, I'm trying this option is some kind of aggressiveness level about how many pixels to remove, do you have a specific recommended value? Thanks for all your help! M. PS: By the way, when I press 'help' on this option, I don't get a help m...

Re: Star Mask, Star halos & noise

OK, so if I did not have Ha signal, let's say a shot from an exposure made with my OSC camera, please could you share where would you usually introduce the Magic module in the process. I'm going to assume that it's after the image has been stretched (aka non-linear) and after de-noising...and what k...

Questions about star mask & star colors

Hi Ivo, In the same way, you have an approach to get rid of all of the stars in a picture (Heal), would there be a way to do the opposite? Create an image that is stars only, then to increase saturation, fix shape & fix halos, and then to lay it over the final image? It got me thinking that increasi...

Re: Star Mask, Star halos & noise

Very cool! Thank you sir! By the way, I just noticed something, you said that the cores were slightly colored by the Magic module, but I did not see the Magic module called out in your steps...Is that something that I was supposed to do? Thank you. M.

Re: Star Mask, Star halos & noise

Got it! ;) At the beginning I thought you were joking with the 1200% in saturation, but I was surprise when I saw the final image. Yes, the image colors are there, but obviously, it looses some of the refinement because it's a balance on what you've called out with gradients & noise. In the end, it'...
