Re: Masks
Hi Tim, When I use Decon and try to use a star mask, I cannot get the auto stars feature to work. The same feature seems to work ok when I'm trying things other than Decon. Hmmm... that sounds and smells like a bug. Thanks for reporting this. I investigated this and found a bug that could potentiall...

Re: Maintaining/enhancing star colours
Hi Mario, Getting color back into your stars is really quite easy to do. It is done like this; Create a star mask Launch the 'Magic' module Select 'Shrink Core' mode. This mode will shrink any overexposed parts of your stars and draw any colored part into the core. Set iterations to whatever you lik...

Re: User Manual Will Not Print
Hi John, Sorry to hear you're having trouble with printing the manual. It's the first time I've come across this particular problem. Can you confirm for me you can view the manual in your PDF reader without problems? Can you confirm for me you can print the tutorials without problems? If the issue i...

Re: using debayered integrated images
Hi Ivo, (Gordon here, just joined!) I'm using Nebulosity 3 for my pre-processing and it gives me a few options for debayering. 1. Color binning 2. Bilinear 3. VNG 4. PPG and 5. AHD Based on the previous post it sounds like 'bilinear' would be what I want to select, correct? Hi Gordon, Welcome to th...

Stacking images in ST?
A quick word on Stacking and why it isn't (yet) supported in StarTools. StarTools doesn't do stacking for the simple fact that there are already great tools out there that are free, (relatively) user friendly, and do a great job ( DSS , Registax ). The aim of StarTools is to keep cost-of-entry very ...

System specs for StarTools
A question that comes up often is "I'm looking at buying a new machine. What are the best specs for running StarTools?" It is a question that is quite broad. The thing to remember with all image processing software, is that every time you double the horizontal an vertical resolution of your image, t...

Re: using debayered integrated images
Absolutely. You can use the De-noise module (ST 1.2+) to remove most types of noise very effectively.artefact wrote:VNG is quite harsh. Is there a way of denoising with linear data in that case.
Good to hear!artefact wrote:Playing with Wipe settings I have fixed the green problem. I will look at DSS more closely.

Re: using debayered integrated images
Hi, Your question seems twofold. First I'll address the question about debayering. The best debayering routine is no debayering at all. In DeepSkyStacker such a method is call 'Bayer Drizzling'. By using a great number of frames which have been recorded with dithering between them, all sub pixels of...
