Re: Building a new system
...living in Portland, OR (rain country), I know very well what you mean. I've decided that in summer & dry days, I do massive amounts of photon harvesting & no processing, and then I reserve the processing for now, rainy season. Obviously, this approach does not help for the first year, specially i...

Re: Building a new system
Hi Ivo, I just installed my new hardware, and now, I have a 10Gb RAMDISK. I put the Distro folder in the RAMDISK, and I ran a comparison between running a task from hard disk or from ram disk. For the task I chose Life-Isolate. In the hard disk, it ran at 30 seconds, and in the ram disk, it ran at 3...

Re: Building a new system
OK, so I ran the calculations X x Y x 150 bytes...
3348 x 2496 x 150 bytes = 1,253,491,200 bytes, or what is the same, 9.3Gb...Ha! This is going to be the mother all of the RAMDISK
I'm glad DDR3 RAM is a lot cheaper than it used to be...

Re: Using Heal to process stars and background independently
Very awesome! Now, we have a great chance to accentuate those stars without over saturating the whole image. Thanks for putting together this guide!

Hi Ivo,
What size of ramdisk would you recommend for running StarTools?

Re: Questions about star mask & star colors
So, I assumed that for the stars you used the "New must be darker than old", and do you remember which value did you use? I'm not quite getting the same effect as you...Thanks for your help, M.

Re: Building a new system
Thanks for sharing Ivo. Cool stuff! I was one of those fortunate people that with a really good friend in Intel, I was able to get my hands (for free) on an Intel i7 Extreme edition 3.2Ghz...the processor alone was $2,000 not including anything else, so I build a system around it, and I put 6Gb of R...
