Two recent images; a Tulip and a Pelican

First up: Sh2-101 (Tulip Nebula). I like this one because I managed to pull out the Shock front from Cygnus X-1 black hole (that faint blue arc at the top edge just left of centre). I didn't aim to get it, just happened to be there :-) http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae183/ChrisLX200/Astro%20-%20...

ngc6888 (crescent neb) bi-colour

This image is a bi-colour (HO) consisting of 12 x 1200s subs each Ha and OIII (Astrodon 3nM). I also collected 6 x 1200s SII subs tonight but there isn't much on them so have yet to try for an HST palette. Data stacked in DSS and processed in StarTools v1.4. Bi-colour image produced using the LRGB t...

Processing Challenge!

Anyone up for the challenge of processing data for the Astro Imaging Channel? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1XP2VknLwg There's a link to the files in the comments, and so far I've just tried the M81 and Markarians Chain images (results available via links in my comment). These were done almost en...

Re: A bit of guidance please

Difficult to draw any conclusions without access to the raw data but from what I can see the jpg seems to profoundly clipped to black (could be this monitor I'm using but the background looks flat black). So the faint structures are completely lost. Perhaps that was the result of an attempt to suppr...

Re: Help with Wipe, Develop

Hi, it seems that my flats were not checked in DSS  . Wipe did a much better job if flats were taken into consideration. Using both flats and darks and averaging stacking leaves unfortunately traces of the hot pixels in the final image. Switching to kappa-sigma improves the outliers rejection...

Re: 1.3 and 1.4 on PC at same time?

The StarTools executables don't appear to have version numbers, so is it possible to have 1.3 and 1.4 on a PC at the same time. I don't mean running them at the same time, just have them there so that I can try the alpha out without having to remove the stable version. Thanks Robin Yes no problem, ...

Using lassoo tool in mask creation.

I'm using v1.4.295 and I find when creating a rough mask to outline a nebula using the lassoo tool that instead of being able to follow the upwards curve at the bottom the line is drawn straight across to join the starting point. Easier to show than describe... so I've included a screen grab. This i...

Re: Would like to get started but ...

I have read good things about StarTools and have downloaded a trial version. But I seem to be behind the eight ball from the start in that I do not seem to be able to properly open my calibrated files for processing. My 64 bit PC runs Windows 7. I use an Atik mono camera which creates 16,572KB fits...
