Re: Donut stars

New version 0.0.3 is online: This is a C# .NET 4.8.1 app. I know, this is the dark side of the force ... but who cares? I've done worse things in my life. Best regards, Dietmar. Awesome, Dietmar. Thanks. Dark side? Well, what is the good side of the Schwartz then? ;) I don't...

Re: Donut stars

Much wow here. Not diving too deeply into things for a Friday night after an awful commute. But a few thoughts nonetheless... I guess perception really is everything! It's almost as if our brains are creating their own extra acutance at the points of change, even though what we see doesn't mat...

Re: Donut stars

Figured I would add a few more thoughts. :) First we probably need to break things down into a few different considerations. One would be saturating vs non-saturating stars. Another would be composition, whether looking at mono, and if LRGB mono or even OSC, query how the channel averaging that gene...

Re: Donut stars

Ah, glad you started researching here. Been wanting to get to this one. I sorta did months ago with those 3D star graphs, but never dove back into it. Now, I'm reasonably sure none of us are picking up the first dark Airy ring and then stretching/enhancing it? I do think the scaling will need to sta...

Re: Messier 106 et al.

Yes , exactly! The processing of the object well, always over processes the stars in my view, although sometimes unavoidable, I am not a fan of a harsh defined core and then halo, but at least try for a softer graduated star, but still retaining colour (wherever possible). .... To this end, I inten...

Re: Forum image posting requirments

Hey Andy, I don't think I've had ST forums give me an error before, other than I think more than 3 pics in a single post. Somewhere in these forums Ivo once mentioned that going over 500 was fine, though it was just by a little. Even so, I've inserted images that were up in the 600's IIRC, w...

Re: Messier 106 et al.

Maybe I will drop a post in Mike's thread. He's so silent  Not sure if serious. ;) I have been relatively quiet lately. Work, errands, commuting, chores, clouds, new cat condo, and maybe a mild case of Corned Beef and Cabbage Coma. Enough housekeeping. A number of interesting point...

Re: Headphone Nebula Jones-Emberson 1

SQM 21 isn't dark eh.... :( What a cool and unusual target. Looking at some references, you even got that little blob of red in the middle. The Oiii side is pretty noisy. I can't say I'm looking forward to 3 hours from urban skies! ;) Stars are pretty darn bleached, so much so I thought I...

Re: Messier 106 et al.

Nice to see you getting some time in, Dietmar! :D That's a fine M106. Brings back memories of mine. It was a monthly challenge and turned into a purple disaster. But that led to buying a screen calibrator, so all good in the end. Yes a number of stars seem to have a mild CA or Pepsi effect, po...

Nice capture, Martin! What a great target.

Sure looks like more than 5 hours, doesn't it?
