Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

Due to another discussion about NB palette options, I was doing some googling and came across this article that summarizes steps taken by the pros who process JWST data. https://webbtelescope.org/contents/articles/how-are-webbs-full-color-images-made They also mention it's very similar to what is/wa...

Re: M81/M82

Everything seems quite clean. :D Plenty of integration, so it should, though I imagine the F7 requires it also. With so much Ha, I imagine you could go stronger (or redder?) than the light touch you used here. But, matter of taste and it can easily overwhelm. M82 looks sharp. I went back to check my...

Re: NGC 3324 Gabriela Mistral Nebula

Hi Martin, After 1.9, going back to 1.8 is similarly SLOW! Would be interesting to hear your takes on it though. SVD has been changed up a fair bit, and there's been some relief to the creation of flat white disks for coalesced star cores, which I found troubling myself. But there's a lot goin...

Re: NGC 3324 Gabriela Mistral Nebula

Beautiful shot, Martin! :bow-yellow: And the retro 1.7 processing looks great too. Seems you may be revisiting all your greatest duoband/OSC hits, now in SHO/mono and I suppose the CF Newt as well? The third channel - if there's data to be found - really does add the touch that takes the overall ima...

Re: M42, with issues...

All things considered, I'd call that an admirable 4-hour Orion. :) Perhaps a wee tint of green in the blue stars, and overall could maybe use a little more acutance. ;) On the right side, in deep images there actually is stuff over there. In fact there are two in EDSI right now - Dance and Yuexiao. ...

Re: RC BlurXterminator …. Any comments ?

In case anyone is still following and maybe doesn't follow CN, I added a few collages over there of stretches and other tools run on the data, starting here: https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/910403-results-from-my-deconvolution-experiments/#entry13258130 These are based on a couple threads by Shau...

Re: RC BlurXterminator …. Any comments ?

For that dataset, I got best results just using a synthetic PSF (Moffat 5.0). The problem is that Shaun's dataset was blurred after acquisition, which blurs singularities (like overexposed stars) as wel) yielding incorrect information in that local area. To StarTools these look like "valid" stars w...

Re: RC BlurXterminator …. Any comments ?

@Mike in Rancho have you read Shaun's Experienced Imaging thread about his "convolve then deconvolve" experiment? There was discussion from Rista about noise profiles (I guess so, because you thought Shaun's new thread was about the M101 data). Anyway, I expect you're right that applying SVD to the...

Re: Workflow to increase OIII in duo band images

Hi Jeff, Well, I don't know. I like a lot of the way your Ha structure looks. As far as Filter goes, well I don't use it that much anymore. Or at all I suppose. Now back in the day I used it quite a bit, mostly trying to hammer my crummy images into something more pleasing. But that was kind...

Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

Hi Ivo, thank you much for your detailed and extensive explanations. Keep in mind there is always the "scale 0" residual(s) the boundaries beyond which the scales do not operate This is exactly the point I overlooked. A graphic equalizer covers the whole audible frequency spectrum whereas ST Sharp ...
