Re: The Ghost of Cassiopeia, so difficult...puzzling

Nicely done, Stefan! :bow-yellow: Usually it's the intensity difference and the effect on color that's noted when using an alternate luminance, but occasionally for Compose we've noted the effect of detail difference. Very starkly shown by your graphic here. They just won't match up well. I also loo...

Andromeda, using AltStars SVD

Warning, this is a work in progress. :D 3 hours and 39 minutes total LRGB, more or less in 3:1:1:1 filter ratio. I had to toss some bad subs. And in fact I need to go find which one has that satellite trail that didn't reject out, and cull that sub also. Taken over two nights this month. And in betw...

Re: What causes stars to look like that ?

I don't know either Dietmar, but...I'm still leaning against it. I'm still struggling a little bit with the definitions and the units on some of these calculations, but, maybe somebody can figure it all out. There should be a way to calculate the best case Airy Disk size in pixels for given ...

Re: NGC 206 (And)

Very cool! :D

I was thinking, gosh that looks an awful lot like part of the M31 I've been working on this month. And...turns out yes, it is! :)

Re: Bubble Nebula area

(or goodness no, starless) +1. Let's hope the starless fashion ends soon; so much good data being trashed! Here is my starless m52: Hope you liked it. But seriously ...! Clear skies, Steve  Don't get me wrong, I'm okay with it as artistic license and special circumstances. For example some fol...

Re: Another graphics card question

To revive this topic... I've been trying to get Startools to process every step in an "instant" (=5-10s or so) - working on my 20MP FIT stacks. Upgraded 5600X to 5900X, so double the threads/cores, not much difference. RAM disk = some difference. GPUS - RX 580 - decent - RX 5700XT - close to what I...

Re: Bubble Nebula area

Nice! I don't think there's anything to complaint about here. You've actually saturated pretty strongly, yet appropriately IMHO, to show the nebulas along with a cool little cluster and awesome star colors. The stars also give the overall image a certain amount of "life," whereas excessiv...

Re: ST Modules and Scale

Well, technically it's starfishies . For greater irreverence. ;) But oh my goodness, yes that does help. I guess I have always been under the mistaken impression that the Law of Startools mandated the entirety of the sample's white outline to be within the blue box. Now, my images ...

Re: What causes stars to look like that ?

Hi Sven, Sorry it took so long, but I did finally get a look at your files. I didn't see anything wrong with the single sub, there are a few star core oversaturated pixels, but pretty much within reasonable bounds in my opinion. Is it a 12-bit camera? I'm not quite sure what the bias level is suppos...

Re: What causes stars to look like that ?

Hi Sven, My suggestion to use FilmDev was more for experimental purposes, rather than to say it should be used. As is noted, the stretch produced therein is not optimized for your image's overall dynamic range, as defined by the settings you choose. I suppose it can be used, and we have had discussi...
