Re: How to make a synth Lum from DSLR

Based on this (and the fact that I'm using a mono CCD), I'll definitely be following this procedure and going down the synthetic luminance route as part of my standard workflow! It sounds a little complex at first, but I like the way ST does this - it's logical, and powerful in the way it lets one c...

Re: LRGB and Narrowband - pre-stretch etc. before combinatio

Thanks Ivo, this is really helpful. One follow-up question -- for creating the RGB colour stack, would you advise using the LRGB module to load and weight the 3 channels (ignoring the L), or would it be better to do it all via the Layer module? Regarding what Nebulosity does in its normalization: fo...

Re: LRGB and Narrowband - pre-stretch etc. before combinatio

Further to this, I've been reading up about how to best create a synthetic Luminance channel. I noted in another thread, Ivo, that you mentioned that ST automatically creates a synthetic Luminance layer, but it wasn't clear if you only meant for OSC DSLR extractions, or also for mono LRGB data, or i...

Re: How to make a synth Lum from DSLR

I'd be interested in this reply, and also a follow up. As a rule, do you recommend we make a synthetic Luminance in pre-processing, rather than just use the clear-filter channel data, for LRGB work in ST? (i.e. full stack of all LRGB greyscale subs as a Lum channel)? Or is it best to create a synthe...

LRGB and Narrowband - pre-stretch etc. before combination?

When using LRGB data, what I have done in the past is create the 4 aligned stacks (in DSS or Nebulosity), and then load and integrate these 4 channels in ST before doing any post-processing. That is, all post-processing is done on the combination image in ST. However, when reading the "Deep Sky Imag...

Re: Demosaic/debayer Sony NEX OSC?

Thanks, I'll investigate further on the file size issue and report back when (if) I have an answer!

Re: Demosaic/debayer Sony NEX OSC?

So, with trial-and-error experimenting, I answered my question. The correct offset for the Sony NEX-3 was X=1, Y=1. So there you go! I'm still not sure what Bayer pattern that corresponds too (RGGB?), given that I don't know what the default Nebulosity expects, but that's all rather immaterial to me...

Demosaic/debayer Sony NEX OSC?

I asked this over at IIS but I might get some more expert advice here :) I've been using Nebulosity (Stark Labs) with success for pre-processing my monochrome CCD images captured in LRGB, but I'd like to also use it with my Sony NEX-3 DSLR (OSC). However, when I go to demosaic the RAWs (.ARW files),...

Re: Discussion idea - giving StarTools stdev data from stack

I think I read that DSS uses n = 8 for its stacking algorithm.

Re: Discussion idea - giving StarTools stdev data from stack

Wow, that result is impressive!

A stacker incorporated into ST would really make it a one-stop-shop for me... Just sayin' ;)
