Re: Crab Nebula HOO questions
Cool stuff! I didn't know this was in the ol' Orion neighborhood. Will have to try it out - though I'm a little short on reach with the scope I like using these days. Hi Mike, yes that's a fascinating object that I have wanted to shoot for quite a time. But be prepared to get a somewhat ridiculous ...

Re: Crab Nebula HOO questions
Hi Jeff, I had a quick go with your nice dataset ('RGB'). That all seems fine to me, nothing unusual. No problem to balance the channels to taste. I'm not sure - is there a problem to get it to work for you or is it more the question what the 'right' colour balance should be? Regarding Ha/OIII balan...

Re: Crab Nebula HOO questions
Hi Jeff, what a fantastic dataset :bow-yellow: ! So much detail. I tried M1 last night (visual spectrum) as well, but it only was a big mess. So jealous. What scope do you use? AFAIK you don't need to extract the channels beforehand. ST will do that for you. Just load the same file into the RGB slot...

Re: StarTools 1.9 preview
but they appear to have been ignored in favour of what to me look like noisy pixels Something similar here: There are some correctly choosen starfishies, but a lot of good candidates are ignored and yes - a lot of empty starfishies are there as well. I could provide the dataset and log, if ...

Re: ST running in VM shows constantly high CPU load
How many cores did you allocate to the VM? Thanks Ivo! :) It was only one lonely single CPU core and now with two it works fine! Some usage by the UI thread (and any OS functions that are spawned by it such as file dialogs) is expected It was much more than that - one of the 4 'physical'...

Re: StarTools 1.9 preview
Oh, OK Mike, I must have missed that in the discussion of the starfishies. And thanks for the hints to workaround. That's important to know since using starfishies is now mandatory.Mike in Rancho wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 5:45 pm that issue on the Mask settings was also in 1.8 and was noted as a bug to be fixed

ST running in VM shows constantly high CPU load
Hi Ivo, not sure if it’s of any relevance, I just wanted to report: As I wanted to do a side-by-side comparison of SVDevon version 1.8 and 1.9, I tried to run one ST instance on a virtual Linux machine. But that doesn’t seem to work. ST starts up, but it constantly eats up about 20% of CPU load, rig...

Re: StarTools 1.9 preview
Saying that, I am actually looking for feedback on the SVDecon workflow/UI. The automatic determination of sample size and automatic apodization mask generation in particular (any failure cases). Note also that you should now be able to select stars that have overlapping sampling areas (if need be)...

Re: StarTools 1.9 preview
That's odd... You should definitely see marked changes. You do typically need to increase the number of iterations however... Thank you, Ivo. I tried some more iterations (16), but there was no change regarding this "Spatial Error' parameter setting (please see post above). But as said, that's prob...

Re: StarTools 1.9 preview
Hi Jochen, thanks for all your replies :) Please try 10-13 iterations, some highlight headroom 1.05, Resampling & Centroid Tracking, Deringing around 30% and crank up theSpatial error and use some of the deformed stars as samples I did all that (and some more iterations, like Ivo suggested), but the...
