Re: 1.8.525/526 MR1 Autodev, HDR, GPU acceleration in WIN11/10

Many thanks for this, Ivo. I notice you didn't use Contrast, HDR or Sharpen in the work flow. Perhaps I am using a too aggressive setting in one of those (I love the highlight detail boost to bring out galaxy core detail). Or perhaps too much stretch in the 2nd Autodev? I'll do some experimenting. I...

Re: 1.8.525/526 MR1 Autodev, HDR, GPU acceleration in WIN11/10

Many thanks, Ivo.

I've sent a PM with a drop box link to the stack and a few capture details.

Most grateful for any insights.

Re: 1.8.525/526 MR1 Autodev, HDR, GPU acceleration in WIN11/10

Hi
Sorry to butt in on this, but I have just tried 527MR (GPU accelerated version) and SVD is still generating artefacts as per images below:
before SVD.jpg
before SVD.jpg (39.71 KiB) Viewed 11744 times
after SVD.jpg
after SVD.jpg (33.44 KiB) Viewed 11744 times
I can put the stack and a log in Dropbox folder if that would help?

Re: Using StarNet++ with StarTools on linear data

I actually ignored the 'only stretch the image' advice and fed the fully processed StarTools output to Starnet++V2 to produce that result. If I was going to drop the stars back in afterwards, it might be necessary to extract the stars early on and then process them separately.

Re: Using StarNet++ with StarTools on linear data

I likewise don't often remove stars,l but had a play with the new V2 of Starnet. I found that: It's about 10 times faster than the original does not require mucking about with .bat files (I hate command line interfaces and scripts and avoid software that requires them) produces better results than I...

Re: Controlling star size

Thank you both for the suggestions. I found re-reading the Unofficial guide very helpful, Jochen, many thanks! And Mike's insights were spot on, both examples were 'exaggerated for clarity' as you pointed out. Using the Heal module (again) I was able to get a slightly better starless nebu...

Controlling star size

Need some help controlling stars. Of late, I find I can stretch for nice, tight stars, not too much bloat, good colour etc, but this gives almost no nebulosity. Here's an example: stretch for the stars 3.jpg or I can stretch to bring out lots of nebulosity but the stars end up looking like beached j...

Ah, of course, whatever works best!

I wonder, have you tired ASTAP? Unbelievably slow compared to DSS it does seem to produce slightly less noisy stacks for me.

Re: Any Astro Pixel Processor (APP) users here? APP stacking vs DSS

Sorry, Brendan, don't have an answer to your question, but wondered why you use Auto Adaptive stacking in DSS? This runs counter the usually given advice https://www.startools.org/links--tutorials/starting-with-a-good-dataset/deep-sky-stacker-settings to use Kappa Sigma if there are enough light fra...

Re: M77 - Cetus A - Hitting a brick wall with Wipe

Interesting! Had a go at your data and agree you have captured quite an amazing amount of detail in only 9 minutes. Not sure if your chosen pre-processing method is actually helping though. The posted fits file seems to have been stretched which is best avoided for good results. Also the red channel...
