Re: IC 434 Horsey Test
Finalized my January horsey, still the last astro data I've managed to capture this year. :( I'm sure it looks pretty much just like all the others. ;) But, I appreciated applying 565 and the new OptiDev to it. The stars are so much happier, deringing can just be deringing, and no weird hoops to jum...

Re: Donut stars
Oh, just visual star core stuff rather than deep star core stretching theory? ;) 500 may be a little high if there are few bright stars to be had, though broadband on my Horsehead region was probably pushing 1,000 max pixels per sub. I guess sacrificing stars with gain (or longer exposures) could sp...

Re: Donut stars
Hi Mike @Mike in Rancho please use with caution - I found a problem. As I wrote, when applying a global stretch, each brightness mapping should be unique. But it isn't. I just implemented a check. I should have done earlier. :( The differences are quite large, for example: 13412 - 12870 1341...

Re: Donut stars
Cool, Dietmar! Indeed, forget all this stuff and enjoy a nice Easter weekend. Everyone should. It'll still be here later. :D I took a quick peek at the project -- all Greek to me. Guess I need to go back to school. And look at the specs for that dll, since I'm guessing that sets up the TIFF ca...

Re: Donut stars
Hi Dietmar, Cool! But, problem with the app, or problem with our understanding what is going on? Or both ;) If you want to DM a link I suppose I could review the project. Maybe? I have VS 2022, not sure if that's what it is in. There was one time I traced and debugged a critical project, and my empl...

Re: Donut stars
Hey Dietmar, Thanks for the remedial histogram lession. I think I was confusing the input/output mapping line with the tally-up pixels at all the brightness levels line. I for sure wouldn't mind trying out the reader app to then make some graphs in a spreadsheet. Maybe try to get a...

Re: Donut stars
Yeah I think that makes sense, Ron. Though Dietmar I'm still interested in your app and wanting to know what the X and Y axes represent! I chewed on it some, and even (sorry Dietmar!) created a little synthetic image of 10 increasing brightness bars in Gimp from black to white, and then played aroun...

Re: Donut stars
Hi Dietmar, A for effort once again! But, I need some help understanding what we are looking at. You said there's a comparison of pixel mapping per file, resulting in....? :confusion-shrug: The first sample shows two lines, both post stretch. How are we seeing the differences applied to pixe...

Re: Mosaic processing
I am no mosaic expert, having only done a couple. They seem inherently difficult, trying to get so many things to match across the panels from gradients, to color balance, to the non-linear stretching. True even if stitching linear rather than all post-processed. But, so many different ways to go ab...

Re: Donut stars
Thanks again, Ivo! An interesting discussion and of course upgrade, though I admit I am still trying to wrap my head around things. :? I will keep reading and thinking though. And cool background on OptiDev. So it's scoring likely activity to determine how to curve things. Kind of explains why we ca...
