Re: Sh2-308 Dolphin Nebula Processing

Hi Martin! Oh boy, when I first saw this post I assumed you were doing this at the rural site. I think it may be the wiser choice. I mean hopefully the hours stack up well and you get something strong enough, but... :confusion-shrug: Moving on...Mike advised what? Golly, that doesn't sound like me. ...

Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

BTW: When are we going to continue filling up our table? ;) I'm curious about the other modules, Super Structure, Denoise ... But of course, I'm not sure if this isn't going to be a 2025 edition ... Ha. Well Dietmar, 2024 still has a lot of time left in it. :D After additional reading esp...

Re: LRGB or RGB?

just sharing to me on my monitor the LRGB stars are slightly stronger in colour seen most on amber stars where as the LGB are less colour intense, is that maybe why they appear slightly tighter Yes, no, maybe? :? For the star tightness, no it was actually spatial. I would have made a blinking GIF, ...

Re: LRGB or RGB?

...continuing my conversation with myself... I was able to experiment more last night. Again maybe something I was doing wrong, thought-wise, but never could get ST to accept a non-linear L to combine with linear RGB to apply as per the Color module. The plan had been to use another program to...

Re: M42, with issues...

Wondering if you came across this one? https://www.astrobin.com/forum/c/astrophotography/deep-sky/horrible-vignetting-with-asi6200-and-at130edt/ Now that's a full frame camera, but still kind of similar. And his circle artifact does "fit" a little better across his sensor. They float a few theories,...

Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

Hi Dietmar, thanks for adding your perspective. I agree with a number of your takes. I would like to see just how they enhance the images, nuts-and-bolts description. And yeah, are they using the same FITS Liberator that I have? Mine is so limited it almost seems worthless, other than rea...

Re: LRGB or RGB?

First little experiment (partially) complete. :? I have yet to dive deeper into my archives, but the data in front of me right now followed my usual OCD pattern of acquisition -- mostly equal total exposure each for L, RGB, and Ha. Ditto on the second night. That makes it easy to run off some compar...

Re: M81/M82

Oh. Cough cough. I think you are right. Granted I am an aficionado of dark backgrounds, but even beyond that I think edit #1 is the clear winner, though yes H-IX pops more in edit #2. I guess more faint stars are showing too, and I like that, but ouch that bright purple sky. And the main tar...

LRGB or RGB?

So there's been rather lengthy discussion over on CN-EDSI as to whether it is better to spend time taking L, or to devote that same time gathering more of RGB instead. I think this would interesting to those of us doing mono. As the whole thread now spans almost 30 pages, I haven't been able to foll...

Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

Due to another discussion about NB palette options, I was doing some googling and came across this article that summarizes steps taken by the pros who process JWST data. https://webbtelescope.org/contents/articles/how-are-webbs-full-color-images-made They also mention it's very similar to what is/wa...
