Re: Help with M31 NBAccent (Ha) processing

Hi Dietmar, thx for Your reply with the great animated blinking image. Yes this is the type of donut I was referring to. As usual, Ivo's analysis is drilling down to the root cause, as my explanation seems just be am instruction of how to make things worse. I wondered what happens once the LUM is co...

Re: Help with M31 NBAccent (Ha) processing

Hi Dietmar, Today I reprocessed my 2019 shot of M31 to get to the bottom of the donut. I think it's the Tame Highlights Gamma (Tame) parameter which creates the "hole" in the donut. The default is 1.25 which clearly pulls down the M31 center below the surroundin "donut ring"... I could avoid this by...

Re: Help with M31 NBAccent (Ha) processing

I'm not sure, if O-III should play here any role at all? But yes, O-III is really strong in the inner parts a the galaxy. Maybe this is a problem for the internal processing of NBAccent? Hi Dietmar, O-II actually doesn't play any role in the center of the galaxy, I guess. But the energy in G & B ch...

Re: Help with M31 NBAccent (Ha) processing

Hi Dietmar, I think I used detail sizes around 20-30 px or so. You want to figure out the size until the knots are the only objects left. Obviously size will be depended on pixel resolution, object size etc. Balancing Threshold vs. Detail size until You are left with the knots only, seems to the bes...

Re: Help with M31 NBAccent (Ha) processing

Hi Dietmar, I used NBA on M33 before. To avoid the red hue in the arms, You need to limit detail size --7to 100 px or so- experiment) This will limit the NBA to the knot size only. Also, You can set a higher threshold to avoid "red noise" creeping in.... If You have a Duoband, You could also try to ...

Re: Light Pollution filter setting for Color module

Hi Jeff, Yes, the idea of the short exposures is that the LP gradient should not bring Your sub into saturation. You'll need many of those to limit noise. You should be fine when the gradient, in the sub's histogram sits somewhere between 30% and 60%. The latter will help recording dimmer objects, o...

Re: Light Pollution filter setting for Color module

Hi Ivo, I think Jeff and Yourself are looking at 2 sides of the same coin. Sure the really best path is to create a LUM stack using a LPS or even duoband filter plus a Color stack using UV/IR filter. I switched to that method with fantastic results and would encourage Jeff to try so as well. Having ...

Re: Help with WIPE

Hi Jeff, the Color view in Wipe lets You check the RGB (color) channel. As luminance and color data gets processed in parallel, both datasets will have different WIPE results which may be checked using this feature. For example, the color view can tell you if there is remaining color shift around th...
