Re: Star Removal
Hi Matt I had a play with your image, which is a target I have tried to process unsucessfully a couple of times. I don't know a way to control the stars in StarTools and still bring out the nebula, maybe others will chime in? But I did try feeding your jpeg to Starnet++ and got this: Lion Nebula sta...

Re: Question on processing the Cat's Eye nebula (NGC 6543)
Thanks for sharing the data. I had a quick play and my first go is very similar to yours: NGC6543.jpg So I tried again, with a more aggressive stretch at the 2nd Autodev and got more detail in the nebula at the expense of the stars and background: NGC6543(b).jpg I think the placement of the Region o...

Re: Layers alignment
I think there may be a way, but it starts outside StarTools. I too have sometimes wanted a way to import slightly different sized images, but it's not presently possible. So to blend or layer output from different sessions where the camera or scope is oriented slightly differently, I use Deep Sky St...

Re: M42 Processing help
As I try to work through this. Did either of you by chance use the binning module? I'm just trying to figure out why I end up with so much noise when I autodev the second time to get the same amount of details that you two are getting. Sorry not to have responded sooner, yes, I did bin, mostly to s...

Re: M42 Processing help
Quite a lot of imagers, even very experienced ones, seem to suppress the Teal colouring even though it is there for real. I used the 'Tame' preset on HDR. This is a very high contrast subject and it can be tricky to get the trapezium stars and the outer clouds... The second Autodev is the one that c...

Re: M42 Processing help
Hi mbushee Thanks for sharing your data, it looks pretty good for 33 minutes. I had a quick go using the 'standard' work flow and put the result below. It's worth pointing out that M42 almost uniquely does have green (Teal) coloured areas and these show up quite nicely in your data. Is this what you...

To add an image (I think there's a size limit, so a full size DSLR image probably won't fit) click on the 'Attachments' tab at the bottom of the post reply screen:
Then click on the Add files button:

Re: New to Star Tools help needed
Hi Mike Welcome to the world of StarTools. If I've understood correctly you have loaded your data, cropped it and then Autodev'ed it? You need to wipe it and then re-Autodev it, using a Region of Interest (ROI), then sliders for Ignore Fine Detail and Outside RoI influence. You will likely still hav...

Re: Combining OSC star colours with L-Extreme dual band nebulosity?
I think the mask is the issue, I need to tweak it a bit more but it's difficult as it keeps blotting out nebulosity in the process. Onus is on me to learn to use it properly! If you extract the stars as per the first part of the procedure here https://forum.startools.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=244 tak...

Re: Combining OSC star colours with L-Extreme dual band nebulosity?
Not sure which thread you found, but if it was this one https://forum.startools.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2003&p=8776&hilit=RGB+stars#p8776 then the process used was to extract the RGB stars and save them, possibly with increased saturation. Create a mask of just the stars and save it. Now load the LE...
