Re: Help needed with narrow band processing

I don't really have a specific style in mind. Just whatever process looks the "best."

I'd say something clean with as much detail and pop as can be squeezed out of the data set.

Re: Help needed with narrow band processing

Ivo, Thank you for the tips! I have a few questions: What made you select 6 pixels for the dark anomaly filter? In the HDR module you went with max dark/bright and detail size of 1000 pixels, please explain? Also, I've read on CN some people recommending binning as the last process, not one of the f...

Help needed with narrow band processing

I have some data I took of M17 in narrow band, and pre-processed the data. I have spent hours trying to get an acceptable final image in Startools. I don't know what I'm doing wrong or perhaps the data isn't very good? I've tried several methods for combining the data but end up with purple backgrou...

Re: DSS Deep Sky Stacker and Background Normalization

Also from CCDStack2:
"...The importance of prior normalization:
For all stack based rejections is imperative that the stack first be properly normalized. Otherwise some images may be over-rejected and others may be under-rejected..."

Eastern Veil SHO

Hello all, This is the first (and only) image produced with a new camera and filter wheel, and my first try at SHO! Captured in SGP, stacked in CCDstack2 (demo) and processed in Startools. There was no calibration performed; no bias, no darks, no flats. Just aligned and stacked all the subs and comb...

Re: DSS Deep Sky Stacker and Background Normalization

Ivo, This is what I am referring to, from the DSS help file. It clearly says that to use Kappa-Sigma stacking you have to normalize the sub's background. "...Stacking Background Calibration The Background Calibration consists in normalizing the background value of each picture before stacking it. Th...

DSS Deep Sky Stacker and Background Normalization

If I understand what I've read on this forum correctly, when using DSS you should not use background normalization?
I thought this was a necessary step when using Kappa-Sigma stacking? ( referring to the authors of DSS and Nebulosity as well)
If anyone can clear up my confusion I'd much appreciate it!

Re: J Metsavainio's Tone Mapping In Startools?

Ivo, Thanks for the response. Yes, star removal is one part of the puzzle. There are several more steps as outlined in the picture below: Tonemapping.jpg https://3.bp.blogspot.com/_9HcYqbvUc4s/SvfETopP2RI/AAAAAAAADc0/G4wBYAFh6jA/s1600-h/Tonemapping.jpg I'm sure all of these steps are covered in diff...
