Ivo, congratulations for a splendid 2021. Every time I use StarTools, I admire it more. What an uncanny blend of simplicity and sophistication.

NGC 1316: A Very Messy Lenticular
This image and text were uploaded to Astrobin this morning. https://www.astrobin.com/ygbjl3/ Most of the processing was done during vacation on my tiny M1 MacBook laptop. Worked perfectly. ****************** NGC 1316 may not be the champion of messy lenticular galaxies, but it must come close. - Fir...

NGC 1395—Not Your Basic Blob
This will not be popular on Astrobin (which is essentially a beauty contest). It was difficult to process, but is super interesting. https://www.astrobin.com/du9uge/ ***************** NGC 1395: A Voracious Eater of Galaxies You might think this is an ordinary elliptical galaxy, but not true. It has ...

Re: NGC 1398: A Double-Ringed Beauty
Hi Mike,
The 16803 does have 9 mm pixels. I wonder how much longer that sensor will be used? CMOS is taking over!

NGC 1398: A Double-Ringed Beauty
Many of the peculiar galaxies I’ve been posting are small and funky. This one could win a beauty contest. https://www.astrobin.com/ji6ujl/ ******************* NGC 1398: A Double-Ringed Beauty NGC 1398, in the constellation of Fornax, has a very bright central bulge and a dense, bright inner ring. Th...

NGC 1344: A Rare, Esoteric Elliptical
This text and image have been uploaded to Astrobin. https://www.astrobin.com/jgna7r/ ***************** NGC 1344: A Rare, Esoteric Elliptical Here is a galaxy that looks like your usual elliptical blob at first glance. But NGC 1344 is actually a very unusual kind of elliptical called a “shell galaxy”...

Re: What is processing, what is art?
I'd like to mention that there is an excellent book on the topic of narrowband colors, written by professional astronomer Travis Rector. The title is Coloring the Universe and the publisher is University of Alaska Press. In the introduction, Rector states: "This often complex process of making image...

Re: Pixinsight non-processing tools
I've used both PxInsight and StarTools for a long time. These days, I use PixInsight for creating masters and StarTools for post processing. But there are now a lot of preprocessing programs, and I don't know if PixInsight is still the best choice. One small thought. PixInsight has a virtual monopol...
