Hey, that's great to see on the Skull, thanks Ivo. All I need now is a pair of 8m telescopes and I'll be up to this quality
I feel like I've just had you in my living room for the last few hours by the way - I just enjoyed your recent Google Hangout on ST. Fantastic stuff!

NGC 253 Silver Coin + NGC 246 Skull Nebula
My latest use of Startools, first a LHaRGB time of a galaxy: NGC253_ST.jpg Details here: http://www.astrobin.com/118924/ ...and 2nd a narrowband image of a relatively small planetary nebula, where I used the Layer module to remove the NB stars and add in RGBs: NGC246_ST.jpg Details here: http://www....

Re: NGC281 with AltAz mount 3h57min
Hi Marco - I'm not sure why you are taking multiple exposure lengths on this object - or indeed why you'd ever want to take more than 2 different exposure lengths? (can be useful for high HDR objects)
You are still also showing a lot of field rotation, unfortunately.

Re: M42 in Orion, LLRGB experiment
I actually spent quite a bit of time on the colour module at the end, but I used artistic detail aware mode instead of scientific, which had the effect of whitening most of the stars (but gave nicer hues to the nebulosity). It was a conundrum - scientific gave better stars, artistic gave better resu...

Re: IC5146 Cocoon nebula
Thanks Alvinillo. I was never game to remove the IR filter from my DSLR. Now I'm almost always shoot with a CCD - but with my current image train and 'trainer' CCD (an Orion StarShoot G3 mono - very much a beginner's piece), I'm working with undersampled data - the opposite problem to you.

Re: IC5146 Cocoon nebula
A very nice image, sharp and contrasty. Could we have some more details on the capture? (imaging telescope, number and duration of sub exposures etc.)?

M42 in Orion, LLRGB experiment
Thanks to some tips from Ivo on creating a synthetic luminance channel, and after studying all of the Startools tutorials judiciously, I think I'm finally getting the hang of this! The more I use StarTools, the easier and more natural it becomes. The learning curve is not steep, but the depth in thi...

This is a really terrific tutorial Ivo - I've spent all evening reading through these, and re-watching the YouTube tutorial videos. A great way to really learn the ins and outs of the software - thanks!

Re: How to make a synth Lum from DSLR
Yep, thank Ivo, the 6:1:1:1 confirms my thinking too, in the absence of further information on the relative transmissibility of the RGBs. It's a decent working hypothesis, anyway :D These are my current LRGB filters - you can see from the transmission diagram that the assumption approximately holds:...
