Re: Really Tough Target Sh-2-72, Sh-2-71, NGC6749

Absolutely, I actually added 1.5 hours more of data last night for 7 hours total. Not a whole lot better but it helps on such a faint target. The zip fie below has a stack of each channel plus the stack of the ha channel. http://1drv.ms/1f1ycH8 Edit: I made 3 more processing attempts incorporating t...

Re: Still first try at processing

Had a real quick try at this. Never tried a comet before, I had some trouble with the core and color as you can see. Maybe I shouldn't have capped green to yellow, not sure. Anyway The thing that I had to do was bump up the Dark Anomaly filter in wipe. then I just used defaults in Color module, exc...

Program Freeze When Opening Some PixInsight FITS

I have noticed that if you register an image in PixInsight and then resave that image as a Fits file (bit depth doesn't matter) it will cause a lock up when you try and open the Fits file in StarTools. It appears to have something to do with the added black area. If you save it as a 16 bit Tiff then...

Really Tough Target Sh-2-72, Sh-2-71, NGC6749

This is one of the only objects I can think of where you can get a planetary nebula, emission nebula, and globular cluster in your field of view. The bad news is that Sh-2-72 is sooo dim that 2.5 hours of exposure without a HA filter revealed absolutely nothing. Not to be differed I went and purchas...

Re: M17 Color

Hmm I don't know if is a unmodded camera issue or not. I took this with a unmodded T3 a couple years and mine was pretty red even in the core.

What kind of telescope was this taken with? Was it an acromat?

Re: HARGB with OSC

I'm using a one shot color color camera so I don't get a separate R/G/B channels unless I extract them separately. When I do that I get an image of the size that is effectively 2x2 bin. So for the image in question I have 2.5 hours of RGB data and 3 hrs of Ha data. As I took the ha data with a OSC c...

Re: HARGB with OSC

That's a good question with no one good answer :) IMO, the best method, which will make sure you retain RGB coloring and will give you good luminance detail, is to create a synthetic luminance from your R, G, B and Ha, process that, and combine that with a lightly processed RGB. You can have a look...

HARGB with OSC

Assuming I have a processed RGB stack and a processed HA stack that is based on the extracted red channel taken with a ha filter and the same camera how should I combine the two in startools?

In praise of 1.4

This is the M27 I took last night. It was really windy so I ended up with only 74 of 93 1 minute exposures even being close to acceptable. Needless to say I was shocked at how fantastic the result came out. http://www.astrobin.com/full/190094/0/ http://www.astrobin.com/full/190094/B/ With the except...

Re: Processing Challenge!

Anyone up for the challenge of processing data for the Astro Imaging Channel? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1XP2VknLwg There's a link to the files in the comments, and so far I've just tried the M81 and Markarians Chain images (results available via links in my comment). These were done almost e...
