I am told this shouldn't have worked but..
Same subs as the previous image but merged by Sirillic as if they were the same length taken at different times. Whether this turned out ok because it was a vertical imaging plan in APT I don't know?

M42 using Layers Module
First attempt at using two exposure lengths, 40 and 10 second subs with RASA 8 and Zwo ASI 071MC. Images checked and culled in Pixinsight, stacked in Sirillic. The bend had to be shifted a few pixels.

Re: Why is Filmdev recommended when using the Layers module
Thanks for that, I am using Layers for 40s and 10s stacks on M42. The images were collected on a vertical session, i.e 40-10-40-10 dither 40-10 etc. I will have a play. With this data collection method I stacked as multisession in Sirillic, without intermediate stacking and used the merged stacks an...

Why is Filmdev recommended when using the Layers module
Hi
I was reading the Layers user notes and Guy recommends using filmdev(dev) rather than autodev when using the results in the Layers module. Is this still the case and if so what is the logic behind the recommendation.
thanks
David

Widefield M42, Redcat 51/ASI071
This took some effort, after poor looking stacked images and difficult processing I culled a lot of moon affected data. Stacked in Pixinsight and got this result. Processing was so much easier, very little adjustment needed for colour. I strove to keep as much dust detail as I could. 92 x 200" image...

M45, Pleiades
I tried to keep the detail of the dust in the area.
197 x 60" images with RASA 8 and ZWO ASI 071 MC pro, Astronomik L2 filter.
Thanks
David

Re: Issues with moon glow and aggressive wipe
Ivo I tried wiping the stacks individually, saving and re-loading but the images did not align correctly. The explanation seems to be that the separate stacks saved by Sirilic, looked different, the OIII had a area at the top that needed cropping, the Ha not so, I did use the same crop. The stacks a...

Issues with moon glow and aggressive wipe
Hi Over new year I took 5 hours of Ha 3minute subs with my Samyang 135 and ZWO ASI183mm. So far so good, of course the weather closed in and when I got the chance to repeat the process with OIII subs the moon was waxing towards full. I stacked and checked out both in Startools, as you might expect t...
