Re: Latest Star Tools Images

Looking good Gary! I remember you said you wanted to get M45 this season and you did!
Did you use an LP filter at all for these images?

Re: Process Help for M81, M82

Mike, I tried your data in Star Tools and PixInsight. I usually do a lot better in Star Tools, but in this case, PI did a better job of taming the noise. There's definitely some detail in the image. But I think with just four subs, it's tough to dig it out. Here's the Star Tools version with the lo...

Re: Process Help for M81, M82

I know this is not the DSS forum, but any suggestions on those DSS settings to make the result better for StarTools are welcome. Also, with those settings, on loading the image in StarTools, should I select Bayered or Not Bayered? Don't use AHD but something that's not as 'sophisticated'. Use bilin...

Re: New to AP seek advice

That looks much better indeed! I have given a try to CCDStack and it remained on my pc for about 2minutes.. It did not want to load my Olympus RAW files... If you don't mind using the command line, you could use dcraw to convert your RAW frames first, so that CCDStack can then use them. PixInsight I...

Re: IC342 - second image with Star Tools

Thanks Mark, Your processing flow seems unnecessarily long (as well as detrimental to your signal fidelity and colors). Here are some suggestions to get more out of your data (and StarTools). Before I leave Nebulosity I do a color balance (my camera is a full spectrum T1i with a UV/Ir filter in plac...

Re: IC342 - second image with Star Tools

Hi Mark, You got some excellent detail In the galaxy, however it seems you have lost all color in the process? Could you tell me more about the 'Block Method'? If you're interested SMI (as well as PIP) can be performed in StarTools as well, so that StarTools' Tracking module can take into account th...

Re: star mask extra information

No problem Tom, Happy to help where I can! Here's what I came up with using the data you provided; M-77 Stacked 1600 C-8 2.5 min.jpg Processed as follows. File loaded [/media/WD/home/irwjager/Downloads/M-77 Stacked 1600 C-8 2.5 min..fit]. --- Auto Develop As always, I do an AutoDev (default settings...

Re: New to AP seek advice

Hi Ivo, Thanks for the advice! Yes I'm realizing that data acquisition is not easy, and here the weather conditions do not help neither.... The frames were RAW stacked and converted in DSS, and I had dark, flats, and bias to go with them. Could it be that the chromatic aberration was caused by the ...

Re: star mask extra information

Hi Tom, OK, yes I'm very new at this... With this ST's attempt, toward the end,I wanted to work on the stars a bit. So I did a star mask, and it ended up masking scads of little specs also, (is this noise I did not get rid of?) and when I subsequently rounded my stars the little specs remained in th...

Re: New to AP seek advice

Hi Marco, Welcome to the wonderful world of AP! Your are not doing anything wrong perse - data acquistion is tough! Actually you have done quite well considering you are imaging afocally, with a smaller 1/1.6" sensor, and at a significant magnification. Were the subframes RAW files? If so, did you c...
