Re: StarTools 1.9 preview

Having a little bit of trouble with 1.9's SVDecon. Several times now the auto mask generator presents a screen completely devoid of green or yellow star cores within the 'starfish'. Here's an example: SVDecon1.jpg Zooming in, while there aren't many candidates, there are some, but they appear to hav...

Re: Help needed with horsehead and flame neublas

OK, John, here we go. I've taken the mask details out to keep the size down. Probably the only bit worth mentioning is the mask used in the filter module. This was a circle large enough to cover most of Alnitak's glow with just a small centre circle removed and then a few presses of the button - I m...

Re: Help needed with horsehead and flame neublas

Hi Moonstruck Thanks for letting us have a play with your data. Alnitak does present some challenges round the Horsehead and Flame nebs, doesn't it? I have had a play with your stack and produced the image below. Pretty sure much better is possible, but see what you think? If it's of interest, I can...

Re: Light Pollution filter setting for Color module

I think You can Save as FITS in ST as well by just changing the extension..... anyone, pls keep me honest.... Jochen Afraid not Jochen. Ivo explained why here: https://forum.startools.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1720&p=7416&hilit=save+fits#p7416 but the relevant bit of the second post is: "StarTools on...

Re: Another histogram clipping question

Many thanks for that, Ivo.

I'll have to have a good look at a lot of previous data and see what a larger (or no) RoI does for things.

Outstanding support once again

Re: Another histogram clipping question

As ever, Ivo, many thanks for your response. Why are you concerned about clipping if I may ask? My concern is that every dataset I process ends up with a histogram that looks like this: histogram.jpg it looks as if some faint detail may be being lost and while I can move the peak away from the left ...

Re: Another histogram clipping question

Your problems could start at the Wipe stage. Definitely check here and go back if you are clipping and change settings eg gradient aggressiveness. Yes, indeed the problems do start with wipe. Nothing I've tried in the parameters in the wipe module can prevent it clipping the background: clipping.jp...

Re: Star Removal

I haven't found a way of extracting stars at the beginning and have to resort to full processing. Then either use the heal module to remove the stars, possibly followed by the filter module to subdue the more prominent ringing artefacts, or to feed the processed image to other software to remove the...

Re: Star Removal

Did you just do another stretch in Startools with autodev or did you use another software? I took your jpeg (as I didn't have the original fits file and just dialled back the gamma in StarTools' FilmDev. Not my preferred method, usually I just do a very gentle stretch in AutoDev and once happy with...
