Re: Denoise after tracking
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think PixInsight has a tracking feature as well. I believe you can go back and remove specific functions in that program as well. (Un)fortunately an undo history, or a process container is not the same as what Tracking does in StarTools. The algorithms/filters in a si...

Re: Help with IC 4812 and surrounding goodies
Really nice but really tough image to process. I took a quick look at the image and its pretty noisy which I think is hurting your ability to bring out dark nebula. I assume that this was taken with a DSLR or because of the really nice color a OSC with a 8300 chip? Some of the noise looks like it mi...

Re: Scientific Color and Star Edges
Absolutely its a data issue but if you look at the center of the galaxy or a strong orange star the object grows edges in a way that looks a little abnormal. It appears that it highlights them so much that the red channel in photoshop shows the stars as rings. Perhaps there should be an option to sm...

Scientific Color and Star Edges
Notice how the stars get red rings and the galactic center changes to orange when Scientific Color is turned on vs. Artistic Color

Re: Red Rings Around Stars + Stacking Insight
So I figured this error out. It is related to the scientific colors setting. When scientific colors is turned to artistic detail aware the red rings disappear. See below.

Some thoughts on PixInsight vs. StarTools and stacking
I downloaded PixInsight this afternoon mainly to compare its stacking functions vs. CCDStack. Inevitably I tried to process a couple images and I wanted to pass along my thoughts for future development and to help potential customers of StarTools. In terms of stacking itself I found PixInsight to be...

1.4 beta feedback
Just a quick note that color is working much better for my OSC in the current beta vs. previous releases. Wipe also resulted in a cleaner image vs. 1.3 on the same fit file. I here are a couple of quick feature additions I would like to see: -Something like this http://www.bf-astro.com/eXcalibrator/...

Re: Red Rings Around Stars + Stacking Insight
So I did a stack in the CCDStack demo which I have uploaded here: http://1drv.ms/1f631KV I think the stack is much better but the stars still have red fringing. In terms of de-baying I tried both bilinear (which was used on both files I uploaded) and AHD in DSS. CCDStack doesn't specify the method t...

Re: Red Rings Around Stars + Stacking Insight
I considered a red channel focus/alignment issue but I use a one shot color camera so I don't have much control over either. Its very possible that it is a deep sky stacker issue I'm looking at buying either MaximDL or CCDStack as they both seem to return a stack with similar FWHM. The problem with ...
